Kapil Sharma Asked Bhumi Pednekar Why She Picks Socially Relevant Movies. Her Reply Won Our Heart.

Bhumi Pednekar is one of those few actors who have had a launch movie that they can be proud of. I mean, Student Of The Year 2 may be a big budget Dharma production, but years down the line Ananya Panday will watch it and wonder what was she thinking. But Bhumi on the other hand, debuted with Dum Lagaa Ke Haisha, a movie that demonstrated her calibre in the best possible way. The movie dealt with body-positivity and I am sure each time she watches it, she feels proud. Because we clearly do.

She has a treasury of socially-relevant movies in her kitty – be it Toilet Ek Prem Katha that dealt with the issue of lack of sanitary hygiene in our country or Shubh Mangal Saavdhan that spoke about sexuality in a light-hearted way. Now, she is all set for Saand Ki Aankh, in which she is playing the role of a sharp-shooter, in a male-dominant society. So recently, when Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu came on the Kapil Sharma Show for their movie promotion, Kapil asked her why she chooses scripts which have underlying social messages.

Bhumi’s reply was rather humorous, keeping in mind the format of the show. She said that she is actually a doctor for people and the society, “Main na actually doctor hoon. Internally…main logon ki…main samaaj ki…” Kapil indulged in some fun banter with her on this as she further added that she heals hearts. “Main dil ki doctor hoon,” Bhumi said. Now this may be an upbeat conversation, but underneath all those jokes, I really do appreciate that Bhumi Pednekar is an actor who feels responsibly for the society. And in that sense, she really is a social doctor as she tackles the issues that have been plaguing our society since ages. So for every Shahid Kapoor who refuses to take responsibility for the social impact of his movies like Kabir Singh, we have a Bhumi who strives to make a difference. She is one of the many actors who are opening up novel vistas for art and a thriving culture of relevant cinema.
