Kangana Recalls The Time ‘Sanskaari’ Pahlaj Nihalani Offered Her Soft Porn. We Aren’t Surprised

Hindi film industry is a lot of things, but one adjective that it never fails to dodge for itself is shallow. From casting couch to the #MeToo movement that came about in waves, taking down big names in the industry one after the one, we yet again come across an instance where it let several of us down with its cheap antics.

We are talking about the recent revelation made by one of the most strong-headed and unabashed actress on the block, Kangana Ranaut, where she revealed how during the early years of her struggle in the industry, she was offered to be part of the movie called I love you Boss by Pahlaj Nihalani and as part of a photoshoot was made to pose in a satin robe, with no undergarments. In case you were wondering, the Pahlaj is the same dude that sat on the CBFC board with his uptight morality and thought Lipstick Under My Burkha was too much of a woman’s perspective. Same man!

After doing this awkward scene, Kangana got a call for Gangster in 2006 and the rest is history, most of which she is making single-handedly. In an interview with the Mid-Day, she talked about how “Pahlaj Nihalani had offered me a film called I Love You Boss. They had a photoshoot where they gave me a robe to wear, and no undergarments. So I just had a satin robe for a show-girl pose, from which I had to stick my leg out, coming out of darkness.”

She further added that, “They should at least have given some tapes. I was supposed to play a young girl lusting after her middle-aged boss. So it was a soft-porn sort of character. And I had this epiphany that I can’t do this. I felt like this is exactly what my parents were talking about.”

Of course, Kangana went to clarify that was not a #MeToo movement situation and that the director and her do laugh this off now.

The feel of the movie that was coming off as rather soft porn, in our opinion lacked more than just enough clothes for Kangana. It lacked of character and of decency. Which is probably why the actress, after going through with the harrowing shoot, went MIA to dodge the movie. Now the actress stands to be one of the most highest paid actress in the industry and we are as proud of her as we are ashamed of men like Pahlaj, who promote such lewdness.
