Kaching! Kangana Signed On For 24 Crores. Is Bollywood Finally Paying Female Actors Equally?

You probably already know this but the movie industry is one of the most highest paying industries in India. What it is not, though, is equal. For many decades now, female stars have been paid a lot less than male stars. Producers and people who are putting in the money argue that it is because it is the male stars that really draw in the crowd and get the cash registers ringing. But then, it looks like things are slowly changing. And we are starting to see women being paid equally, if not more.

Case in point, Padmaavat. The movie, while heavy on testosterone, also had Deepika Padukone playing a lead role. For this, the actress demanded the highest pay amongst the actors and rightly so. This also made her one of the highest paid stars in the country. And it looks like the times may be changing.

Kangana Ranaut just signed the dotted line for the Jayalalithaa biopic for a whopping sum of 24 Crores, leaving behind not just Deepika Padukone but actors like Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Varun Dhawan.

Kangana has been in the running of some of the most talented and fiercest actors in Bollywood and seems like has finally gotten what she has rightfully demanded. But what’s more heartening to see is that this is not a one-off. Alia Bhatt signed Raazi for 10 crores. In comparison, for the same movie, Vicky Kaushal got paid a sum of 3 crores. The ladies in tinsel town are demanding their share and it’s obvious. Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka Chopra charged approximately 10 and 7 crores respectively for their recent projects.

We are proud of Kangana, her acting and her well deserved remuneration. And for a change, we’re proud of you too, Bollywood.
