Indian Origin Doctor Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Women Patients. We’re Now Just A Country Of Horny Men
There is famous phrase, ‘Your reputation precedes you’, that is true for almost every Indian out there. By just claiming our nationality, we have long been identified by a lot of adjectives and well, stereotypes. From being known as snake charmers, to assumed to be poor or that we’ve an unimaginable threshold for spice, we’ve been saddled with a lot of assumptions. But we can deal, it’s not all bad. Then again, it wasn’t as bad as the impression that we’re creating across the globe. That of being perpetrators.
It is no news that the crime rate in India is off the charts when it comes to our women. In fact, there are studies and surveys that have even pegged India at an alarming number 2 in the list of the countries with the highest frequency of violent crimes like rape and murder. And while that is sad news in itself, what is even sadder is that the Indian male population continues to disappoint and shame us, even in countries outside of India. As has happened in the UK, when a general practitioner, Manish Shah was accused for sexually assaulting over 25 women patients.

An Indian origin doctor, settled in the UK, and working as a general practitioner has recently been found guilty of sexually assaulting 25 women and assault through penetration on 6 women, all of whom were his patients. The way he made this happen, was by slyly introducing the fear of cancer into the minds of these young women to convince them to undergo invasive vaginal examinations, breast examinations and even rectal examinations.

The prosecutor Kate Bex told the jury how, “He took advantage of his position to persuade women to have invasive vaginal examinations, breast examinations and rectal examinations when there was absolutely no medical need for them to be conducted.” Facts that don’t just have us riled up but also deeply embarrassed as to how no matter where they go, the Indian male continues to embarrass us. You can take the man out of India but you can’t take the tharkiness out of him, clearly.
Bex continued saying, “Fear is an incredible motivator and few health concerns are scarier than cancer. Shah exploited that and used it for his own personal gratification.” Except, he couldn’t keep the game going for long as his offences came to light. In fact, between the year 2009 and 2013, Shah was accused of assaulting six women, including some as young as 11 years old.
Even though Shah denied any role or wrongdoing on his part, the prosecution made a strong case, bringing to the fore all the previous allegations he was convicted of and also highlighting how he was known to maintain a highly sexualised relationship with his patients and would even give them hugs and kisses and say how he has a soft spot for them.

One of his own patients also went on record and said, “He would say you need to have these sexual health tests, to make sure you’re safe – you never know if somebody goes with somebody else even though you might have a safe partner. He was just encouraging the tests along when I didn’t think anything of it, I thought if a doctor suggests it you pretty much go along with it.” She continued saying, “He just duped so many people. He used our weaknesses and fears and took complete advantage. But not one time did I actually think he was doing anything untoward.”
We are not just shocked at this but also shaken up on the lengths a man would go to satisfy his sexual desires and misuse his position as a doctor and assault innocent women. Shame on such men, and shame on such mentality that isn’t just thrashing the name of doctors but also Indians, and branding them all as monsters. There was a time when we’d question if there was no better way to remember us by, but now the question is whether we aren’t any better than this.
