In Bengal, A Woman Accuses Man Of Raping Her For 5 Years. He Then Marries Her Younger Sister. Wtf Is Even Happening?
These are troubled times we are living in and I say this after having repeatedly come across disturbing and sometimes mind numbing stories of hate and rape crimes against women on the daily. What once used to be gut-wrenching and painful to read, has suddenly become a harsh reality that just keeps getting worse with every passing day, and every passing case. And the one that we’ve recently stumbled upon is about an ongoing investigation into case where a woman has accused a man of raping for five years, under the false pretext of marrying her, but ended up ditching her to marry her younger sister instead.
In what has been the kind of news that leaves you cringing in both confusion and frustration, a 20-year-old woman from Kolkatta has alleged that she was raped for 5 years of a man who kept the relationship going, promising to marry her at some point. And at some point, he abandoned the promise and the idea and married her younger sister instead. The Sinthee Police that has registered the case, while still figuring out the details of the case, has filed an FIR against the guy for the crime of rape and cheating, for under the law a man establishing sexual relationships with a victim on the pretext false promises of marriage, is held guilty of rape. However, with exceptions to every case.
As per the FIR, “The victim alleged that between 2015 and beginning of 2020, the accused person befriended the complainant. After the two came close, he allegedly induced her to have a physical relationship with him at his residence. He also raped at other places on the false assurance of marrying her. On her denial of having any physical relationship, the accused person allegedly used criminal force to cohabit with her and assaulted her on several occasions.”

How much truth there is to the statement, we are yet to find out, and if in case this is what went down, guess mankind has hit yet another low of now emotionally raping the women as well by using false promises and emotional blackmail.
However, having said that, we can’t also overlook the fact that every man who doesn’t keep his promise to marry a woman, cannot be held guilty, especially if the sex was consensual and if the circumstances were different as stated just now. Because come to think of it, it has a big loop hole for falsely accusing men of intentions they never had, and chances are (bleak or good as they may be), it could be the same in this case. But of course, in any case, marrying the victim’s younger sister was a dick move nonetheless, and the kind that is sure to land him in some trouble.
The police on the other hand has stated, “We will probe the case in detail and record statements of family members from both sides. The statement of the woman’s sister will be crucial.” We are yet to find out what happened in totality, but even then, people need to start being more considerate and aware of the consequences their actions might have.
