IKEA Opens Its New Store In Hyderabad & It’s Even Cheaper Than You Imagined!
If you are anything like me, love home decor and have spent hours watching IKEA hauls on YouTube, then it is time to rejoice. Five years after it received approval to invest in India’s single-brand retail sector, they have launched their first store in Hyderabad. In case you are bummed that it’s not your city they picked, well, this is just the beginning. The Swedish home furnishings brand has major plans to open 25 stores across the country by 2025.
The Hyderabad store has over 7,500 products and is spread over a whopping 13 acres of land, with a built-up area of 4 lakh sq ft. After Hyderabad, Ikea will launch its second store in Mumbai next year, followed by Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR. But hey, in case your city is not on the list yet, you can shop online! Besides retail, IKEA said it will also enter the e-commerce segment in India by next year.
Now here is a cool fact; not only will IKEA generate employment for 15,000 by next year, they have a non-negotiable policy to hire 50% women on all levels, including forklift drivers and assembling co-workers. Those who are aware of the workings of IKEA know that most of the furniture has to be assembled and set up by the buyer. However, since Indians are unaccustomed to the DIY concept, IKEA in India is offering customer service, to help people set the furniture up.
Also, IKEA is known for their canteen and the yummy food they have to offer. In India, the store will be serving Chicken Meatballs for Rs 149, Biryani for Rs 99 and Salmon Fillet for Rs 399.
Now onto the happiest news, IKEA is looking to keep prices in India even lower than other countries. Keep scrolling for some of our favourite pieces from the India catalogue.
