She completed her course at the Yelahanka air base in February and was inducted in the IAF in the 112th helicopter unit that was earlier only catering to male air warriors, until 2018. She was commissioned an air warrior back in 2015 after she graduated from the Punjab University and then went on to show great commitment and perseverance alongside her male counterparts during her 6-month training.

When asked to share how she felt about this, she said, “My achievement as the first woman flight engineer is a dream come true as I had aspired from childhood to wear a soldier’s uniform and take to sky as an aviator. I am enthusiastic about my stint in aviation and look forward to embrace the challenges in the service.”

Hina will be posted to the Indian Air Force’s operational units and her role would require operations in highly challenging situations from the Andaman to the Siachen Glacier.

A big salute to this woman and what is clearly the beginning of a list of achievements!
