This pandemic has brought with it a lot of a change. And I say that not just in terms of life with social distancing, but also in the way we now look at and react to things. From lifestyle to our vocabulary, everything has undergone a transformation including our taste for entertainment. 13 weeks into self isolation, as we exhaust almost all relevant and fun content out there, I find myself desperately looking out for more that I can chew upon. And during one such search, as I came across Anupama Chopra’s interview with our former Miss Universe, and I knew I had to tune in.
Talking to Sushmita Sen, who was last seen on screen 5 years ago in a Bengali film called Nirbaak, is going to soon be seen making a comeback in a Hotstar original show, Aarya. While the two caught up virtually about how life has been in the past decade, from children to her new boyfriend Rohman, Anupama also touched upon the topic of Sushmita’s upcoming show, and I couldn’t help but find myself drawn back to the teaser trailer that dropped a few days ago.
Looking at Sushmita Sen in a never-seen-before kinda role, we weren’t just thrilled for the plot to unravel, but also to see how she manages to keep up the role of a hardened criminal by the looks of the trailer! Here are 5 thoughts we had while watching the trailer –

This is going to be show about comebacks
From Chandrachur Singh to our very own Sushmita Sen, the cast at first glance felt something of a reunion of class actors and known personalities that have decided to come together for this one show, and it had us all the more excited to tune in to this action thriller!
Get ready for plot twists
Well within a minute into this 2.5 minutes long trailer, we see Aarya (played by Sushmita) go from a loving wife and a homemaker to a hardened criminal trying to collect the shattered pieces of her life after her husband is murdered, a guy who was apparently a part of a drug cartel. For those of us who thought this is going to be a classic plot with Sushmita as the hair-swaying-in-the-wind kind of winsome beauty in this, might have to reset expectations as she takes on the role of a badass!
Make way for some wardrobe inspiration!
From seeing her don gorgeous sarees during the scenes of festivities to looking feisty as ever as she switches roles from a housewife to an emboldened women, Sushmita Sen’s wardrobe in the show is definitely something we’d be looking forward to, along with the storyline which by all means is as entertaining as her costume design in the show!
She is the perfect reflection of the modern day woman
From seeing her take on the responsibilities of her husband and her home, to later on taking a stand to divorce Chandrachud if he continues to sell medicines illegally, we see quite a movement in the character arc for Aarya in the show. From being emotional towards her feelings, to stepping up and taking charge to protect her family and kids, she comes across as the true depiction of the modern woman who isn’t scared to to do what she needs to do, and we love it!
Look out for some great one-liners!
During the entire 2 and a half minute trailer, we couldn’t help but notice the kind of strong, powerful and empowering one liners that were being dropped by the characters in the show. Our personal favorites being the ones escaping the mouth of Sushmita as she reminds how earlier men used to take care of business, but now not enough are left, we are sure to expect some A grade sass and wit coming our way!
