9 Healthy Habits To Kick-Start Your Morning
Who said that you need to be a morning person in order to get your day going great? On most week days, I’d like to hit the snooze button a lot more than necessary, and on weekends, I’d rather not see daylight until noon. So, yeah, I’m not a morning person. Thankfully, you don’t necessarily need to wake up on the right side of the bed to have a productive morning. Having a healthy morning routine though can actually do you a ton of good.
Here are 9 healthy habits that will completely transform your morning routine, and help you have the most productive days ever!
1. Wake up early
It all begins here, because it won’t really matter what you do after waking up, if you get out of bed past noon. Avoid hitting the snooze button and wake up early. Trust me, by the time you are half way through your day, you will realise that you have accomplished much more than you would had you snoozed your alarm until noon.
2. Meditate and practice gratitude
Take the first few minutes of your day to meditate, and clear your mind of the zillion thoughts you’ve woken up with. Make a mental list of things you are grateful for and allow yourself to think positive thoughts about your day.
3. Drink a glass of warm water and lemon
Re-hydrate your body with warm water after a long night’s sleep. Also, your immune system needs a boost, so add some lemon juice for the perfect amount of Vitamin C. Drinking lemon water in the morning helps with digestion and cleanses/detoxifies your liver.
4. Put your phone away
Logging onto Instagram and Snapchat is the first thing that most of us do when we wake up each morning. It usually brings in clutter and negativity. So, it’s best to stay off social media in order to avoid certain thoughts that might distract you from your morning routine.
5. Exercise regularly
So you don’t really have to run half a marathon to get your workout in each morning. Just a 5-minute full body routine will go a long way if you are consistent with it. Given this insane Mumbai heat, you can even indulge in a 10-minute yoga session at home.
6. Make a to-do list
Before you step out of your house, make sure you know exactly what you need to do during the day. Although there might be several times when things might not go according to plan, creating a to-do list will ensure you stay productive right from the get go.
7. Eat a healthy breakfast
Don’t ever skip breakfast. It’s the fuel you need to start your day on a healthy note. Indulge in foods like yogurt, fruits, granola, cereal, poha, upma, etc. Eggs are another filling and nutritious breakfast option.
8. Take a bath
That first splash of water on your body will definitely wake you up! A nice bath will help you feel fresh and ready to take on the day.
9. Cuddle with your pet or partner
It is scientifically proven that a good cuddle will bring in positive thoughts and help you feel better. Cuddle with your partner before you get out of bed, or if your pet is up for it, then snuggling together on the couch will definitely make you happy.
