Ekta Kapoor’s Show Bekaboo Is Basically Soft Porn With A Story. Are We Ready For This?

Ekta Kapoor has produced movies with sexual undertones before, such as the Kya Kool Hai Hum franchise, so it’s not entirely new territory. But she seems to have taken the tharak to a whole new level now. We happened to stumble upon the trailer of ALTBalaji’s new show Bekaboo. And we have never seen anything as sexual as this in India, outside of porn sites! The show combines ‘pain and pleasure’ and if you’re into the BDSM, you’ll probably use the show as a tutorial. For those of us, who aren’t entirely sure about venturing into this territory, this was our introduction to it.

From the looks of it, this is a show that combines the genres of sex and thriller (basically what B-grade movies are usually made of) but this one has more sex than thrills, at least from what the trailer lets us in on. The story revolves around an erotica writer Kiaan, who makes it a point to mention in the narrative how his wife and he shared a superhot sex life. This, right before ‘the bitch’ came in his life and he couldn’t keep it in his pants. Kiaan enjoys a bunch of crazy sex sessions with this seductress with no regrets until he finds himself trapped and figures he f**cked up. And suddenly, the relentless cheater claims to be a *victim* of seduction, because “sometimes it’s the girl who’s the bitch,” or so says our hero here.

 Pain, Because it’s Regressive AF

We found the whole concept downright regressive and very distressing, which basically asserts the common age-old belief that it’s the women who seduce the men. Be it rape or extra-marital affairs, our society takes the responsibility off men, quite conveniently. Though we believe that most people won’t be watching the show for its plot, and that Ekta Kapoor’s idea of feminism isn’t exactly ideal – it’s still adding to the damage that’s plagued our society since forever.

Pleasure, Because it’s opening up a dialogue about sex

On the other hand, expect sex scenes involving restraint and pain. Also a cling film, which for us amateurs, made us think of food that needs to be refrigerated. Of course, there’s a lot of thrusting action. While there was nudity (aesthetically done!) in Netflix’s Sacred Games and Radhika Apte-starrer Parched, Bekaboo’s trailer doesn’t want anything to do with that. Apart from the borderline psychotic sex, we think Bekaboo can open up a dialogue – which is a good start! Are we ready for such explicit content in India? Maybe it’s pushing the envelope a bit too much, maybe a certain section will go haww or maybe we’ll hope someone will make a more tasteful erotic show. We’ll find out soon!

Just a tip: Don’t watch it on your way to work. India is not ready for that!
