Dozens Of Priests Walk On The Backs Of Hundreds Of Women Who Believe This Ritual Will Bless Them With Children. What Is This Nonsense?

India is known for its culture, heritage and faith. We have beautiful temples and numerous festivals that are celebrated all around the country. However, along with the conventional rituals come the extremely bizarre ones. The latest one being the ‘Madhai fair’ in Chattisgarh where over a dozen priests walked on the backs of women who believed this “ritual” will bless them with children. Ugh. This is such nonsense.

This bizarre ritual occurred in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh. “Witch doctors” and priests literally walked on the backs of women on the pretext of blessing them with children. If this isn’t a product of blind faith, I don’t know what is. How are practices like this still allowed? According to reports, the Madhai fair is held on the first Friday after Diwali at the temple of Goddess Angaarmoti.

This year, 200 women from over 50 villages laid down on their stomachs as the rest of the villagers stood around watching them get trampled over. Dozens of priests and witch doctors walked on their backs to enter the temple. Basically, these women formed a living red carpet for the priests. It’s utterly nonsensical. The million-dollar question though is how did no one have any objections to this? The women were ready to get walked over, literally, by several men holding flags all because they want a child. This not only speaks volumes about the superstitious practices and blind faith that exists in our country but also the severe lack of sex education in parts like Chattisgarh.

The thousands of people that came from various villages and tribes to visit the fair and watch these women get walked over weren’t even following COVID 19 protocols. People did not bother with masks nor did they practice social distancing. If you’re wondering why India’s COVID curve is not flattening, his is part of the answer.

I would say that authorities need to take charge and put a stop to rituals like this one, but the unfortunate truth is that the authorities usually turn a blind eye and can’t be bothered that a bunch of men are walking on women. Literally.

These superstitions and rituals fueled with blind faith are really getting out of hand.
