Deepika Padukone Says ’83 Displays Lighter Moments Between Romi Bhatia And Kapil Dev. We Can’t Wait To See It

Deepika Padukone will be seen in the Meghna Gulzar directorial, Chhapaak where she will be essaying the character of Malti and the movie is based on the real life traumatic incident of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal. Deepika Padukone’s role in the film is really intense and the actress was emotionally connected to the character. Soon after its schedule wrap up, Deepika had to fly to London for the shoot of her next film, ‘83 and she had only 48 hours to switch from her character ‘Malti’ to ‘Romi’. The diva revealed that she began to organise her house so that she could divert her mind and be calm.

Deepika Padukone essays the character of Romi Bhatia, Kapil Dev’s wife in ‘83. Her character is not as emotionally taxing compared to her previous two films, Chhapaak and Padmaavat. A source stated to HT Cafe said, “For some time now, Deepika has often spoken about her craving to do a lighter role since she has constantly been doing intense characters. In a way, her part in ’83 fits that bill [of a comparatively lighter part] but not entirely because, in essence, the film is a gripping drama about Indian [cricket] team’s journey towards the [1983] world cup victory.”

“Surely, the storyline has several highs as well as lows, but at the same time, there are a few lighter moments between the captain and his wife,” the source added. Deepika Padukone also revealed that the movie explores and showcases another side to the couple. “Honestly speaking, I’ve always enjoyed playing characters that take a lot out of me, emotionally. Even in ’83, there are extreme highs and lows that Romi also goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup. But the film also explores lighter moments between Romi and her husband. So, in that sense, you can say that it has been a lighter part emotionally.”
