Deepika Padukone’s Response To Which Sportsperson She Would Like To Play Is The Cutest Thing Ever

Deepika Padukone’s Response To Which Sportsperson She Would Like To Play Is The Cutest Thing Ever

Biopics are the flavour of the season. And if you are going to make one about a sports person, the most obvious choice would be Deepika Padukone, what with her actually being a sports person and all. Earlier, Deepika Padukone was rumoured to be the first choice to play the lead role in Saina Nehwal’s biopic, which she turned down eventually. Multiple biopics have been made in Bollywood now and a bunch of us were obvious curious about who Deepika Padukone would want to play on screen. The Padmavaat actress who is super close to her father Prakash Padukone, a former badminton player said that if she had to essay  a sportsperson character in a movie, then it would be her father!

Deepika Padukone belongs from a sports background and is also gearing up to essay the role of Romi Bhatia who is an essential part in the sports biopic ’83. Since the sports connection has been quite strong in her life, when asked on playing a role of one Deepika said, “I understand the gender issue (smiles). But if I had to play a sportsperson, then it would be him or any sports legend from that era. That’s because of what they achieved in the circumstances, within the limited exposure and knowledge versus the kind of funds, facilities and visibility available to athletes today. But in spite of all that, to achieve that greatness and legendary status is commendable. Our yesteryear athletes inspire me.”

Prakash Padukone was ranked World No. 1 in 1980 and has been awarded with Arjuna award in 1972 and the Padma Shri in 1982. Initially Deepika was going to follow her father’s footsteps and be a professional badminton player. But it wasn’t Deepika’s calling and rest is history. Deepika Padukone calls her father her mentor and has always attributed her success to him. We love this father-daughter duo and hoping for something like this to happen!

Deepika Padukone will be seen alongside hubby Ranveer Singh in the film ’83, in which Ranveer essays the role of Kapil Dev,  the captain that lead the Indian cricket team in a glorious win against West Indies in the World Cup final in 1983. The film is helmed by Kabir Khan and has a huge cast.

Deepika Padukone on her playing the role of Romi Bhatia, Kapil Dev’s wife said, “The personal equation doesn’t spill over into the workspace. I can’t think of anyone else who could do justice to the role of Kapil Dev, but if there was someone else playing him in the film, and not Ranveer, I would still do my part.” She added, “This isn’t coming from a personal equation, but from my passion and enthusiasm for the film.”
