Deepika Padukone Confirms To Portray Draupadi In Her Next Film. Says, She Wants To Tell The Story To The World.
From the time of Ram Leela, to Bajirao Mastani, to Padmaavat to the ever significant and bone-chilling movie Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone has been seen picking up scripts that haven’t just left us entertained, but also deeply impacted the society in which we live and operate. And while the pandemic has bought several things to a halt, it hasn’t stopped her from picking interesting projects.
Already in the middle of shooting for Shakun Batra’s project which is touted to be a love story, Deepika will also be seen doing a film with the Badshah of the industry – Shah Rukh Khan in a movie to be called Pathan. Other than that, we are going to see her in a film with Prabhas and two other exciting projects that she’s yet to spill beans on.
But what the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani actress has already spilled beans on, is the next most exciting and hopefully poignant role of Draupadi from the Mahabharata. Rumours about this had been surfacing for a long time, have recently been confirmed by the actress as she talks about one of the most famous story coming out to the world.

She said, “There is the most famous story coming out of our country, ‘Mahabharata’, in which I am playing Draupadi and I want to tell that story to the world,” and we can’t say we aren’t excited to see how it turns out to be.
The movie is going to be a retelling of one of the major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the Mahabharata, and will be seen being told from the perspective of Draupadi, who was regarded as the common wife of the Pandavas, disrobed during a gambling bet. She would be seen collaborating with producer Madhu Mantena on the project that is based on the popular novel The Palace of Illusions. We are thrilled to see such feminist stories being picked up, from the point of view of a woman, and narrated to the world.
