TV Actress Dalljiet Kaur Talks About Dating As A Single Mother, Meeting A Guy Who Wasn’t Comfortable With It

In an interview with TOI, she shared how even though she did end up dating someone after her divorce, it couldn’t last due to a few compatibility differences, especially since he had a problem with her being a single mother.

She shared,” I did date someone for a while. But you see, I need someone who needs to live with me in my journey. By that I mean he needs to accept me as a single mother. I can’t go out clubbing in the evenings; I have to be there with my son to see that he does his studies and goes to bed on time. I just hope that someone comes into my life with a kid of his own.”

When asked whether the problem lay in men having trouble accepting that she had a son, she said, “Yes. They need unattached women. You are right, woh acceptance nahi hai aur unke baad, unke families ko bhi acceptance nahi hai. (They don’t have the acceptance and their families also won’t accept). They may have 10 flaws of their own but they will very conveniently sweep those under the carpet.”

Unfortunately, she was right. Our society has enabled men to make their own flaws seem trivial and expect nothing short of perfection out of women. However, we are glad that more and more women like Dalljiet Kaur are living life on their own terms, not choosing to succumb to a version that is approved by the society. The world is as much an oyster for single mothers as it is for single women, and it might be the right time to let go of all the stigma attached to single mothers. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t. But at all times, you opinion on someone else’s choices is neither important, nor necessary.
