“Women Should Have Free Access To Sanitary Napkins,” Says Akshay Kumar

After Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Akshay Kumar is all set to play the role of a real superhero in his next release, PadMan. The National Award-winning hero is talking about menstrual health these days at various promotional events for the movie.

PadMan is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who invented a low-cost sanitary napkin-making machine. The movie is all set to release on January 25, 2018 instead of January 26 (to avoid clash with Aiyaary) and we are super pumped to watch it.

In a recent interview, when he was asked if he wants to reach out to the government to cut down on GST rate of sanitary napkins, Akshay told media, “Why just cut down on GST? I think women should have free access to sanitary napkins. This is their basic necessity. It is about menstrual hygiene and not luxury.”

Akshay Kumar also mentioned that he was ashamed to say that 82% of women in India do not have access to sanitary napkins, and they are ill-treated during these five days.

As it is based on a social issue, the producers are planning to show the film in various small town schools with the aid of various ministries and the government. We totally support it and hope that the movie is a hit and is able to spread awareness about menstrual health and break taboos.
