5 Reasons Why PV Sindhu Has Become An Inspiration To All!

By  |

All eyes were glued to the screen, my colleagues watched with anticipated eyes, drinks were passed, the last few seconds of the match were on and everyone was silent. No, this was not a cricket match but the women’s badminton finals at the Olympics. Even though PV Sindhu lost the finals, she certainly won a billion hearts. With nail-biting moments, a neck to neck fight and truckloads of emotions, it was the perfect finals match. Carolina Marin won fair and square, but the Indian star made her run for it. She showed the world that she deserved to be at that arena. When she climbed on to the Olympic podium to receive her silver medal, the tri-coloured flag hoisted high, every Indian watching was a little teary-eyed.

And that is the magic that this phenomena PV Sindhu has become. Here are just a few reasons she deserves all the attention she is receiving!

1. She Has Created History

There is a reason why August 19 will go down as one of the greatest days in the history of Indian sports. It is the first time an Indian woman has won a silver in the Olympics. It is the first time we have won a silver in badminton. It is the second medal we have won in the game ever, the other won by Saina Nehwal in the 2012 Olympics, which was a bronze. She is also one of the four Indians, since independence to have won a silver at the Olympics. So many records set and broken by just one win.

2. She Is Just 21

’95-born kids are currently being taunted all over the country, me included. One of our clan is out winning an Olympic medal while the rest of us are catching Pokemon! This only tells us one thing — we are going to see a lot more of Sindhu mania in the coming years and we are more than happy about it! Tokyo, we are ready!

3. She Has More Awards Than You Can Count

This superstar has won many championships and has proven to be one of the most promising sports personalities of our country. Apart from winning a lot of championships, she is also the youngest recipient of one of the most important titles of India, the Padma Shri. And now, with the Olympic silver, she has struck off another great achievement. Being a world no. 10 and playing against world no. 1 is no joke! With all this said, she showed the true spirit of sportswomanship when she hugged her competitor and congratulated her on the win. *hearts melting*

4. She Never Stopped Dreaming

Right from the age of 8, little Sindhu would accompany her father, who is a professional volleyball player, to the court to practice. Among vigorous training sessions she found her dream, the dream to become the best badminton player that the world has seen. Slowly, she started working towards it. With coach Pullela Gopichand, she has come a long way. She knew she had to win the medal when she saw Saina Nehwal win the bronze in the London Olympics. And she even sacrificed her phone and ice cream to get here, so we know it definitely hasn’t been easy!

5. She Got The Nation Together

For once, the whole country came together to watch something apart from cricket. If a girl can do that, you have to take her seriously. It is going to be an even bigger celebration when she comes back home. This also shows the way our country is progressing, slowly but surely.
