11 Book-To-Movie Adaptations We Can’t Wait To See!

It’s not uncommon to see best-selling books being adapted into big budget Hollywood movies. In fact, some of our favourites like The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Fault In Our Stars or the Harry Potter series are proof that when done well, book adaptations can be a real visual treat and fire up your imagination like nothing else.

And the first half of this year has already seen two great adaptions come to life on the big screen, including The Jungle Book and Me Before You. But there’s a lot more in store for all you movie/book buffs! Mark these dates and take a look at which bestsellers will make it to the silver screen in the coming months.

 

1. The BFG (July 1)

Book: The BFG by Roald Dahl.
Story: The Big Friendly Giant revolves around an orphan girl, Sophie, who is kidnapped by a giant. They both encounter numerous obstacles on their way to Giant country. Experiencing the adventure of a lifetime, they need to convince Queen Victoria to get rid of the bad giants. Will they be successful?
Starring: Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill, Jemaine Clement, Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall.

 

2. The Legend Of Tarzan (July 1)

Book: The Tarzan series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Story: Tarzan, also known as John Clayton III, lives in London with his wife Jane. But due to terrible circumstances, Tarzan has to return back to the jungle after almost a decade.
Starring: Alexander Skarsgard, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz.

 

3. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates  (July 8)

Book: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates by Mike and Dave Stangle.
Story: Two American brothers need dates for their cousin’s wedding. The women that they end up taking aren’t what they expected. A hilarious riot that will keep you entertained!
Starring: Zac Effron, Adam DeVine, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza.

 

4. Into the Forest (July 22)

Book: Into The Forest by Jean Hegland.
Story: The plot is based in the future, where resources are scarce. Two teenage sisters try to survive in a horrifying scenario with obstacles at every step. Hope is all that they have.
Starring: Ellen Page, Evan Rachel Wood.

 

5. Nerve (July 27)

Book: Nerve by Jeanne Ryan.
Story: Nerve is an online game of truth and dare. When Vee gets paired with the smoking hot Ian to play the game, it seems like an exciting adventure. Soon, things turn out to be more than just a game. With their lives now at stake, how far will they go to win the prize?
Starring: Emma Roberts, Dave Franco.

 

6. The Light Between Oceans (September 2)

Book: The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman.
Story: Tom, a lighthouse keeper, lives on an isolated island with his wife. After two miscarriages, Isabel has lost all hope of ever having a child. But one day, a child washes up to shore and they take her in as their own. What will happen when they meet reality? What will happen when someone comes to claim Lucy?

7. The Queen Of Katwe (September 23)

Book: The Queen Of Katwe by Tim Crothers.
Story: Based on a true story, the plot revolves around a young African girl from a poor background who becomes a world champion in chess.
Starring: Lupita Nyongo, David Oyelowo.

 

8. The Girl on the Train (October 7)

Book: The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins.
Story: A psychological thriller that will keep you at the edge of your seat till the very end. Rachel’s regular train ride turns out to be deadly one day as she may have witnessed a murder. A murder that she has no memory of.
Starring: Emily Blunt, Laura Prepon, Luke Evans, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux.

 

9. Inferno (October 14)

Book: Inferno by Dan Brown.
Story: A thriller that has Robert Langdon solving a new mystery while racing against time to recover from memory loss. From the master that is Dan Brown, this movie is a must watch.
Starring: Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Omar Sy.

 

10. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (November 11)

Book: Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain.
Story: A satirical take on the war that soldiers fight abroad versus the war that is at home, in this case America.
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel, Steve Martin, Chris Tucker, Joe Alwyn.

 

11. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children (December 25)

Book: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
Story: A young boy moves into an orphanage when his grandfather dies — the same orphanage where his grandfather once lived. But it is not a regular orphanage. Something about it is peculiar, and the residents are strange and the time is different.
Starring: Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, Allison Janney.
