Camille Schrier Crowned Miss America 2020 After She Performed A Science Experiment In The Finals. This Is Such A Leap From The Bikini Round

It was very early on in my life that I knew I wasn’t going to be the kind of a woman who gets to be a part of all those fancy beauty pageants- mainly because they hvae nearly perfect women competing for a title, all of whom could substitute as a duplicate for each other, as long as they were fair, slender and had long hair. That was the kind of a reputation that has preceded such pageants for so long, and quite rightly so too.

For years, the only substance that was measured in these women was their height, body type, weight and them meeting the superficial requirements of the contest. Because the moment things or even contestants got a bit too real, they’d be asked to leave. But seems like, originality and substance are finally coming around to pageants like these, as the recently crowned Miss America 2020 broke stereotypes by performing a live science experiment at the finals.

Camille Schrier, the woman who has been crowned Miss America after defeating 50 fellow contestants, is a biochemist from Virginia, and also the one who will have her name go down in history, for breaking past the stereotypical norms that have dominated the society and such global platforms for women. Entering the final round with a vision in her mind and a lab coat on her back, Camille is probably the first one to perform a science experiment to effectively convince a panel of judges and bag that title of being Miss America. After all, last we checked it had to go to a woman who wasn’t just strong, resilient and confident but also ambitious and progressive.

In her acceptance speech, Camille said that she hopes and envisions to, “break stereotypes about what it means to be a Miss America in 2020”. She even told the panel that, “Miss America is someone who needs to educate”. And we do agree with that. Coming with two undergraduate degrees in science herself, while currently studying a doctorate in pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University, Camille Schrier  is the poster girl for all the hopeful, progressive and feminists out there who aren’t afraid to be themselves.

She said that during her time and in her role as Miss America, she sees herself spending a year advocating drug safety and prevention programme, called Mind Your Meds. Hopefully her coming into the challenge and justifiably winning will help overturn the unrealistic beauty standards and expectations that otherwise govern the format and concept of the show. Because the last thing we want is for her crown to be taken back, just for not keeping up with the prejudiced restrictions of the society. Looks like pageants are finally turning into the inclusive platforms they have always claimed to be!
