Bidita Bag’s Campaign Anti-Rape Campaign Talks About Consent And She Made Quite The Statement
Over the hundred things that women often bond over, relate to and exchange stories about, probably one of the most saddening and recurring of them all is how most of us have experienced sexual harassment at one point or another in our life. The only time, that age, colour, cast, creed – nothing matters – is when we talk about minor and major instances of sexual assault. And that is perhaps the why, when today anyone takes a stand to spread word about this violent gender crime, we are all for it. As we are for actress Bidita Bag, who recently made a strong statement about rape crimes against women.
The Indian actress, who has been known to pick socio-political films and stays active about speaking up about important issues, has taken an initiative to spread awareness about violent rape and assault crimes against women, by way of her recent social media post on Instagram. Aiming to start a campaign that means to highlight the importance of ‘consent’, Bidita has put up a series of posts, that show her standing in tattered, torn and bloody clothes, with placards in hand, talking about the ever important need of bringing consent in fashion.

The post starts with a caption that says, “Consent?… what is consent he said…my might is my right. Choice? Your choice…really?…he mocked! I whimpered, I begged, I cried. Hitting it right where it hurts, Bidita explained with her powerful images and words just how sad the current mentality of men in our society is. And the fact that it has come to a point when even after shouting, screaming and rallying against the injustices hurled at women, men still grab any opportunity to ravage a woman, only highlights the need of the hour. Which is why when Bidita came to the fore, to remind men and the society of how integral and indispensable the concept of consent is, we were all ears.

Yearning to bring back consent in fashion, in a series of hard hitting posts, words and captions, Bidita captured the essence and the gravity of the situation in a way that is hopefully bound to linger long enough to see through and bring about change. Her posts also talk about the emotional duress that a woman goes through apart from the physical brutality of the crime, an important aspect that could get overlooked.
And at this point, we suppose, coming face to face with the grim and gruesome reality is probably all we need to fight against rape and assault crimes and for once, make up for failing our women for far too long.
