At 81, Veteran Actress Waheeda Rehman Is Following Her Dream Of Becoming A Wildlife Photographer. We Are So Inspired By Her

We have heard countless stories about people following their dreams. I have a friend who moved from engineering to makeup because she always had a knack for it. I also know someone who left his father’s business to start his own successful one. Though this isn’t news anymore, everyone wants to follow their passions and it always takes trial and error to find out what it exactly is. However, it does become news when an octogenarian does it and how!

Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman who has played hundreds of characters on the big screen is now discovering what it is like to be behind the camera. She has now decided to dabble in wildlife photography and scuba diving since they have always been her passions. This is a story worth telling because most people spend their entire lives wanting to chase their passions but never actually pursue it. Not Waheeda Rehman, she is proving to us that there really is no age to switch careers.

She recently held an exhibition of all her wildlife photographs from all around the world in a group show. In an interview, while talking about how she was always passionate about photography she said “Earlier, we didn’t have any school or teacher to learn photography, so I used to do it in a haphazard manner. But after I retired, I had enough time to learn and pay attention to the art.”

I really wish when I grow older, I too have the courage to follow my passions. The 81-year-old actor has travelled across India and Africa to click these pictures. She was one of the 24 amateur photographers who were monitored by Himanshuu Seth.

Talking about her show, she said “I am happy that I am pursuing a nice hobby. I was always passionate about photography. I feel you need passion, patience and luck to take the kind of pictures (wildlife pictures) that we have displayed here. I have been taking pictures for a long time but not without learning properly. I have learned it from Himanshuu Sheth. We have travelled across India, Tanzania, Namibia, Maasai Mara (Kenya), Arunachal Pradesh and Assam to take these pictures.”

In the same interview, she also mentions that she has always had a keen interest in photography. Even as a young actor, she would carry a camera with her around sets. She also mentions that photography has now become an addiction for her, and Scuba Diving is next on her bucket list.

It really is inspiring, isn’t it? After all, there aren’t many veteran actresses or even people out there who can confidently say “I am retired, it is now time for me to follow my dreams.” Though I haven’t given it much thought, old age has always scared me. However, I think I now have a whole new perspective about how I would like to spend my golden years- by pursuing a wild passion of mine.
