Akshay Kumar Said A Channel Muted “Sperm” From The Good Newwz Trailer. When Will Sex Stop Being A Taboo?

My reaction towards our country’s double standards about sex ranges between disgust and amusement. For the most part, I despise how we as a society act like sex is a taboo. Forget spelling it out, even if someone utters anything that is remotely related to it, they are looked at is someone asked for their kidneys. For rest of the times, I am amused how most people just go about their lives pretending as if sex is a fictional phenomenon. Really? They act as if they have no sexual needs whatsoever, and have never indulged in anything sexual. I mean, we are a country that’s almost throwing China off from the top of the most populated countries’ list. How do you think those many babies are being made? Is God throwing them at us?

Recently, Akshay Kumar revealed how a channel had muted the word “sperm” from the trailer of his soon-to-be-released film Good Newzz. “I went for a TV show once, they were showing the trailer of my film Good Newwz, and the channel had beeped out the word sperm. I was upset; I asked them how can you do that? Sperm is not a bad word, it’s a natural word, and my film is an educational film. Like Padman, people should know about sanitary pads,” the Khiladi expressed.

I completely agree with him and I hope more people do too. It’s just sperm, not Voldemort – one can name it! Until we break free from all these inhibitions, our country will suffer from lack of awareness which leads to bigger problems such as STDs, sexual frustration and insecurities, over-population, etc and parents cry over spilled milk. Well, you deserved that for not having the talk.

So I am hoping Good Newwz will be able to contribute its two cents in normalising conversations about the so-called taboos in India. The film revolves around two couples trying to become pregnant through IVF treatments. We’ve also had Sonakshi Sinha’s Khandaani Shafakhana and Rajkummar Rao’s Made In China that aimed at breaking the hesitation in speaking about sex problems. So we’re progressing and Bollywood is being a wonderful torchbearer of this change. I hope parents break free from the awkwardness with their children and educate them on the same.

Good Newzz will release on December 27.
