According To The India Justice Report 2020 Report, Bihar Has The Highest Number Of Women Employed In The Police Force
Back in 1972 when Kiran Bedi was starting her training at the National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie as the only woman in a batch of 80 men, it was a landmark moment for all of us women. The statistic was reflective of just how the women were challenging status quos of our society, especially after having been raised in a male chauvinistic society. But today, all those years later, seems like things have changed quite dramatically, for where there was one woman in 80 men, now there is one woman in every four men in the force.
Shedding light on some important and telling facts, the India Justice Report of 2020 has highlighted which state has fulfilled its quote requirements for SC, ST and OBC in both officer cadre and constabulary, and which state has met the diversity requirements for constabulary.
Bihar has come across as the state to have the highest number of women employed in the police force, at a ratio of one female cop every four male cops. With a 25.3% Bihar leads the list in meeting diversity, followed by Himachal Pradesh at 19.2% and Tamil Nadu at 18.5% respectively.

Bihar tops the list of 25 States for employment of women in Police Force. With 25.3% of female Cops, every one in four cop is a women in Bihar Police.

However, in terms of having the highest number of women officers, Tamil Nadu exceeds with 24.8% women employed as officers, followed by Mizoram at 20.1%. Meanwhile, Karnataka is the only state in the country to have met the quotas for SC, ST and OBC in both officer cadre and constabulary.
And while the number of women rising in ranks and entering the force across states is flattering, there is still a long way to go for women in representation in the judiciary. This after the India Justice Report shows that Sikkim has the highest percentage of women representation in courts at 33.3 percent, that too because of three total judges in Sikkim, one is a woman.
It is a shame that of all the states in India, Sikkim is the only state with more than 20 percent representation in courts out of the 29 percent judges across High Courts that are women.
