A Woman In Kerala Was Brutally Gang Raped And Tortured By Her Husband’s Friends In Front Of Her Son. Even A Pandemic Can’t Stop These Sick Men

I don’t know what to say that will make men stop raping women, nor do I have the power to make those men suffer like I so desire they would. But, what I can do is start dialogues and spread enough awareness about gruesome rapes that have unfortunately become so frequent in our country. I know that right now it just feels like there is nothing we can do to stop rapists from raping except talk about it and raise our voices against this brutality. And who knows, maybe we will succeed in preventing some woman from becoming India’s next daughter. 

However, the gang rape case that has just come to light is vicious that it gave me goosebumps just by reading the story. A woman in her mid-twenties was gang-raped and tortured by 4 or 5 of her husband’s friends, in Kerala. Whether the husband was an accomplice or not is still a question the police are trying to answer. 

According to reports, on Thursday the victim’s husband took her and their child to the Vettuthura beach Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district. After the beach, the husband told her that they were going to his friend’s house that was nearby. At the house, the men started consuming alcohol and they forced her to drink as well.

Though the reports vary, and the timelines a little blurry, right now, the information is that the victim’s husband and his friends left the house, leaving her alone there with her son. After a while, the husband’s friends return and on the pretext of taking her to her husband, they forced her and her son into a vehicle and took them to an isolated forest area nearby. The men brutally raped her and beat up her son. 

When she regained her strength she grabbed her son who was crying and ran out onto the road where a passerby car stopped to help her. The two people in the car dropped the victim at her house and alerted the police. 

She told a local publication that because of her inebriated state, she isn’t sure whether her husband was present or not. She also said that her rapists tortured her by pressing cigarette butts on her skin, she could feel her skin burning when she regained consciousness.  

According to this report, her husband later came to her mother’s house and asked her not to register a complaint with the police. But she did not avail his request and filed a complaint anyway. The police now suspect that one of the accused, the man who owned the house, sold mind-altering substances and the husband had taken the victim there in return for a stock. But again, these are still just speculations, nothing has been proven yet.

Initially, the police hadn’t been able to take her statement since she was still in an inebriated condition. A sub-inspector said, “We have shifted the woman to taluk hospital in Chirayinkeezh. We will register a case after the medical examination. We have already launched a probe to take the suspects into custody.” 

This case is extremely shocking and we hope that it doesn’t take a decade to give this woman some justice. And for what? Some intoxication? That’s ridiculous. This victim deserves justice but we can only hope that the police track down the accused and they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. 

I am appalled at the fact that not even a pandemic is enough to stop men from brutally raping.
