A UP Panchayat Held A Lucky Draw To Help A Woman Decide Her Groom After She Eloped With Four Men

One of the biggest struggles of a woman’s life is choosing the right life partner. For some people, if they are extremely lucky, they find the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with and the rest is smooth sailing. I am insanely jealous of these people, it’s not fair. Just the thought of choosing one person to live with forever scares the bejesus out of me. What’s the most definitive way of choosing? A compatibility test? A live-in relationship before marriage? Or like this woman from UP, hold a lucky draw? No, I am not joking. A village panchayat in UP held a lucky draw for a woman who eloped with not one or two but four men. This is exactly what I am going to make my parents do when it’s my turn to pick someone to marry.

The people in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkarnagar recently witnessed an extremely bizarre wedding where the bride picked her groom through a lucky draw because she just couldn’t decide between four men. Five days before the wedding, the woman eloped with four men and stayed at one of their relative’s house. This just makes me realise that I am only invited to the most vanilla weddings.

Once the girl’s family learned about her whereabouts, they were determined to file a police complaint against the four men. However, the village panchayat stopped them and offered them this innovative solution.

The bride was asked by the panchayat who she wanted to marry but she was unable to come to a definite conclusion. According to reports, the prospective grooms were also asked but none of them agreed to marry her. Here’s where this gets confusing. If they didn’t want to marry her, why did they all elope? Anyway, after they failed to come up with a solution that was suitable for everyone the panchayat decided the best route to take was to hold a lucky draw.

They asked a local to write down the names of all the four men on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl. One piece of paper was drawn from the bowl and the girl had to marry whoever’s name came up. We aren’t sure if the bride got to choose or someone chose for her but all’s well that ends well, right?

This has got to be one of the most bizarre weddings!
