A Study Shows 28% Men Developed The Hots For Alexa During The Lockdown. Seriously, What Is Happening?

Needless to say or even point out, but the lockdown has inevitably brought out a rather weird and never seen before side to all of us, that we may still be getting acquainted with. For me that was a contrasting panicked self, unlike the otherwise calm and composed personality I have, while for many of friends it was a strange mix of being aloof for weeks on end and then suddenly wanting to be too social. And while this wave of different emotions is but natural amongst all of us, especially at a time when we’re locked in our houses during a pandemic and forced into a lifestyle that doesn’t allow for much, one such heightened emotion has been that of sexual frustration.

For those of us who haven’t had a sexual release because we weren’t quarantined with our partners (if we had one), or because we were quarantined with our family which makes masturbating in hiding all too tacky, the lockdown has tested our patience all too well. Perhaps that is why, when we came across a survey that talked about how men have found themselves to be attracted to the AI Alexa, we weren’t too surprised.

Turns out, with nothing but an all day long rendezvous with gadgets, men couldn’t help but imprint on the one voice that they were hearing day in and day out, and that was of Alexa. According to a research by We-vibe that surveyed close to a 1000 men for their robotic sexual preferences, 28% of them admitted to have had a crush on Alexa. Talk about where all the good guys are, seems like the women have new competition in the market, the kind we don’t really know how to match up to.

Sharing the qualities they love most about this AI, one relationship expert from Texas even shared that, “[Alexa’s] been set up to sound very reassuring and calming. But it has that low, sexy tone. People associate a sexy voice with low tones to it, and her voice has that. That can be part of what’s turning guys on and making them attracted to her.” And of course, we assume the readiness to follow orders, that most men love giving out.

Meanwhile a voice actor Kay Bess shared, “AI voices don’t really have ‘an opinion’. Moreover, when you combine the following three things—a voice with soothing qualities, the neutrality of opinion, and a voice to whom you’re asking questions and can receive real answers without judgment—you’ve got the makings of a type of attraction. ”

We don’t know at this point whether to understand where this attraction is stemming from or be weirded out with this fetish that reminds us of the movie Her, but either way, one thing this year has taught us is that nothing is impossible. Not even a covert affair with an artificial intelligent device.
