A Sports Win Is Like The Birth Of A Son, Says Mohun Bagan President. WTF!

There are various ways to express happiness about a win in a sports event. You know, like pumping your fists in the air, clapping raucously, shouting from the rooftops… there’s a whole lot you can do. Of course, if you are in a position of authority, this also means that you will be allowed to express the joy of a victory with a statement. And that’s precisely why the mike was handed over to Mohun Bagan Club President, Swapan Sadhan Bose. His club won the Calcutta Football League (CFL) on Wednesday.

The eloquent man with an obvious foot in the mouth syndrome likened the win to the birth of a son. His exact words were, “Daughters were being born for the last seven years, suddenly a son has been born. How would you like it if that was the case with you? I have the same feeling.”

Want to know what we actually feel? We feel like you should stop having babies, that’s what! But anyway, he has since apologised for the remark, taking full responsibility for the fact that it was sexist and stupid comment. Okay, the stupid was something we added, but we imagine he considers it that.

Ours is a country where female infanticide is an actual problem. Such insensitive remarks do need the kind of harsh calling out that this one got. And maybe, just maybe, no one else will say something like this. Here’s hoping!
