A French Woman Was Allegedly Drugged And Sexually Assaulted By A Queer Activist In Goa

I’ve always wanted to take a solo trip somewhere but every time I start to plan it I chicken out. I think about what happened to Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta Hai when he stayed back in Goa by himself. The thing is, if you’re a woman, travelling in India by yourself is a major undertaking and it comes with dangers lurking in every corner. Sometimes those dangers aren’t what you’re expecting though. Look at this French woman, for instance, who alleged that another woman, a queer activist from Delhi, groped and performed shamanic rituals on her in Goa. And people wonder why foreigners have such a distorted image of Indians.

This incident that took place on 23rd February left the French woman deeply disturbed. She claimed that the accused drugged and sexually assaulted her. Allegedly, the accused woman, who is a queer activist and mental health advocate, also performed some shamanic rituals on her. So much for Atithi Devo Bhava!

According to reports, the victim works as a yoga instructor and is a student of political science in Paris. She was in Goa since January on business. The French woman connected with the accused over Instagram and the two decided to have lunch together. The accused asked the French woman to pick her up from her hotel. When she arrived, the accused insisted she come up to her room. Upon finding out that the victim had back issues, the accused offered her a shamanic healer which made her feel extremely dizzy and weak. She was unable to defend herself and claims that from 1.30 pm to 6 pm she lost consciousness. That was when the accused Delhi woman assaulted her private parts and performed some sort of a ritual.

The victim alleged, “I understand that woman-to-woman sexual assault is very hard to recognise as rape but medical investigations should show that I suffered small lesions between my privates and my chest and back were covered with bruises. ”

The accused has been booked for sexual assault but this entire incident is extremely shameful. We need to take drastic measures to ensure women’s safety. I know that we live in a country where most people won’t consider this sexual assault. But the thing to remember is that any sexual relations that aren’t consensual, is an assault. No matter what the gender of the people involved is. We hope that the Delhi woman is held accountable for her actions and given a fair sentence.
