50-Year-Old Woman Asks Her Family Members To Bury Her Alive So She Could Please Lord Shiva

I was raised to believe that God exists everywhere and our sole purpose in life is to appease him. Though, much to my parent’s dismay, once I was old enough to understand these things I quickly turned into an agnostic and that was that. However, most people don’t have a choice. They are raised in an extremely religious way. Their faith, though strong, is often blind which leads them to do things that no rational person would dare try. For instance, this woman in Kanpur asked her family to bury her alive so that she could appease Lord Shiva. There seems to be no end to these dangerous superstitions and empty beliefs.

On Wednesday, a 50-year-old woman, Gomti Devi, from Uttar Pradesh’s Sajeti, Ghatampur area allegedly decided to take ‘samadhi’ to appease Lord Shiva. In order to do that, she asked her family members to bury her alive in a pit outside her house. The woman was saved just in time and rushed to the hospital. It’s unbelievable that even her family members didn’t see how problematic this was.

Gomti Devi was married to Ram Sajeevan, who is a disciple of Lord Shiva. On Wednesday morning, she told her family members and neighbours that Lord Shiva has come into her dreams and hence, she wanted to take samadhi. The family members dug a 4-feet pit outside their house where the woman did pujas.

The woman stepped into the pit, sat in a meditation posture, and her family covered it with mud. What’s even more unbelievable is that the locals who witnessed this woman being buried alive, sat around the pit and chanted bhajans. It’s a wonder that not one of them realised that this woman could’ve died in there.

Some villagers, the sensible ones, saw the problem with this practice and informed the police. The cops came and pulled this woman out of her pit. Gomti was in there for four hours before the cops were even informed. She was rushed to the hospital just in the nick of time.

There is a difference between faith and blind faith. One is good and healthy while the other one is like playing with fire. I just don’t understand how people fall for these dangerous rituals? It’s basic common sense. If you bury yourself alive, there is a huge chance you might not live to see another day. If you want to appease God, go to the temple and offer flowers. Or do some good in this world. What happened here was just sheer ridiculousness.
