5 Very Good Things That Happen When You Stay In New Year’s Eve

There used to be a time, and it still is for a lot of people, when going out and partying till dusk turns into dawn would be the only cool way to celebrate anything. Like a Saturday. Needless to say, birthdays, promotions and the ever hyped New Years, would obviously add to the social pressure of stepping out with the crowd, getting pushed around and making more contact with people’s sweat than their faces. A deeply un-enjoyable ritual that I decided to skip this year around, by choosing to nest in the comfort of my own bed on the last night of 2019.

Making sure I take this decision when I am as sober as it gets, and not letting any of my friends or peers manipulate me into ditching my ‘Netflix and chill’ plan for one, I successfully managed to dodge the social bullet and definition of living it up, by deciding to stay in this time. And contrary to popular opinion, it was the best way to start my New Year!

Staying warm and cozy

There are reports out there that are telling us how this is the second coldest December in the last 100 years, and considering Delhi is literally only short of snowfall now, we believe it. It’s been running as low as 4 degrees here, but on the upside, it became the strongest motivator for me to not crawl out of my velvet-y soft PJs and uber warm blanket, only to shiver in clothes that are closer to the size of a handkerchief. Because I live in Delhi and we dress up all the time and NYE would mean more dressing up but only in less clothes. Even if that means that you get hypothermia.

Not Having To Decide What To Wear

Dodging one of the biggest challenges as women, staying in this time meant not having to decide what to wear for this enormously pressurising night and I couldn’t have felt more relieved. Saving on all three – effort, energy and money, this time my New Years Eve wasn’t preceded with me throwing a fit in front of my wardrobe or dropping thousands of rupees on impulsively buying a dress I wouldn’t be able to wear anytime after. And boy am I glad on saving that expense and trouble!

Saving On Spending All That Money

Going out to party on a New Years Eve in financial terms means having to spend half of your rent money on buying a table at a club, that is soon enough hijacked by drunk girls and guys, who couldn’t care less about not having paid for it themselves. In fact, any drink that you buy that night, that is if you manage to, is almost triple the price you normally would pay and half as worth as a normal drink on a normal night. Good thing raiding your dad’s bar cabinet don’t cost you a thing!

Not Having To Socialise

I am a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy the occasional dressing up and stepping out but I hate the idea of socialising with people, in person. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t always hate the idea of meeting new people, but on a New Years Eve, when the music is a little too loud and the place is a little too crowded, small talk is the last thing you want to indulge in, especially when you know it’s never really worth it. And for me, not having to paste a plastic smile on my face and pretend to care in conversations, seems like an ideal night!

Not Spending The Next Day In A Hangover

Chances are, and they are as high as you are that night, that you won’t be coming back sober. Which takes us to waking up with a massive headache the next day, with a feeling of not wanting to ever crawl out of your bed. But with staying in, and drinking comfortably in your house and under no pressure to get too drunk too soon, you’re more composed with your pace and the next day isn’t spent whining in bed, but up and about!
