5 Times Radhika Apte Proved She Was A Complete Badass!
Radhika Apte is in the news. She has been for a while, with the world and its wife ruining a great joke that Netflix started. But today, we are talking about her because it’s her birthday! Yup, the bold, intense actress turns a year older today and she’s riding high on the success of her Netflix series Ghoul. She’s been seen playing some tough, grim roles in recent times. What with Ghoul and Sacred Games.
While she impresses with her onscreen avatars, this actress is taking no prisoners when it comes to calling out the industry, key players and the powers that be. Here are 5 times Radhika Apte was vocal about her annoyances. Clearly, she’s not someone you can quieten down; she’s a spirited Virgo girl!
1. When She Called The Telugu Film Industry ‘Chauvinist’
In 2015, Radhika was speaking to Rajeev Masand in an interview, and said that she found the Telugu film industry ‘chauvinist’, and that she wasn’t keen on working here. She pointed out the fact that while actors were treated like gods… the women? Not so much.
2. She Pulled The Curtains On Bollywood’s Casting Couch
You’ve got to hand it to her. She’s fierce. When the whole of Bollywood was trying to brush it under the carpet, Radhika talked about the casting couch and her experience with it in a BBC documentary called Bollywood’s Dark Secret. Of course, she faced flak, but that was a bold move.
3. She Didn’t Shy Away From The Nepotism Debate
While the nepotism debate was raging and comments were flying thick and fast, a huge chunk of Bollywood ducked and avoided talking about this at all. Not Radhika Apte. She acknowledged it exists, drew parallels to other industries where this happened, and just like that, moved on.
4. The Time That She Gave No F**** About A Leaked Video
Radhika is no stranger to controversy, but it can be awkward. A sex scene from one of her movies was leaked and went viral in 2015. The same thing happened with her movie Parched. The actress though, was unfazed and said that such things don’t affect her anymore. That’s some poise!
5. She Refuses To Be Stereotyped!
Radhika is one of the few actors that works on her own terms. She won’t do just one kind of role, shuffling brilliantly between movies like Phobia and Ahalya to the more subdued Padman. She did each with aplomb. You can try, but you can’t box her!
Here’s wishing the country’s favourite person right now, a very Happy Birthday!
