5 Things I Actually Look Forward To, Every Day During This Lockdown

From March to May, the things we look forward to has drastically changed. With a complete do-over in our routines and lifestyle, and after spending weeks trying to adjust to this confinement, I finally seem to have come around to the idea of quarantining.

Yes, it took me a long time to get comfortable to the fact that for an undefined period of time, this is what it is and there is only so much a person can sulk, and that there is a limit to how much even your friends and family can handle. But perhaps now that the anxiety has settled in along with the chaos, I have to admit it feels kinda relaxing to be able to stay home and relish in the silver linings of even a troubled time as such.

For me, apart from setting a routine that involves less of sleeping and more being productive, if there is anything that has kept me sane all these weeks, it is finding happiness in the little things and embracing what we have always taken for granted. And so come to think of it, here are 5 things that this lockdown has made me appreciate even more and look forward to every day these days!

Long Hot Showers

It’s true that this was one thing I did look forward to anyway, even before we were hit with a pandemic, but the intensity of craving a long, relaxing shower now a days is unparalleled. Be it the fact that this is the time you get to pamper yourself and release all those pent up emotions, or the time when you can practice your future Grammy’s winning speech, a shower will always help you feel lighter and fresh, and at a time like this, we could desperately use some of that feel-good factor!

Cooking

Cooking never came naturally to me, but now having been forced to learn a few basic things, under these circumstances, I have come to realise how it can be rather therapeutic for all of us. At a time when everything around us is in a chaos, to be able to control the outcome of something, be it your plain but delicious Mac n cheese, doesn’t just make you feel in control but helps put your mind at peace.

Netflix-ing with your friends/family

Earlier, netflix and chill would either loosely translate into some much needed me-time or perhaps a booty-call invitation, now it has turned into a much sought after practice to soothe the mind. Especially after the ‘Netflix party’ extension being introduced that allows you to stream together with your friends, driving away that feeling of loneliness and replacing it with some good old and happy banter.

The Work in work from home!

We all have been guilty one time or another for using work from home as a cover to sleep in our beds all day long and blame the incomplete targets on the supposedly not-working wifi situation. But now when WFH has actually become a raging reality, having something to do for a few hours every day as opposed to doing nothing at all, has become our only saving grace! Even if it means preparing boring PPTs or doing some terrible research, we’re up for it!

Catching up with friends

I have spent most of my recent years trying to avoid picking up calls of friends or strategically leaving those messages un-read, but suddenly catching up with old friends has now turned into a delight rather than a fright. Now, days are spent looking forward to those evening calls or FaceTime notifications, for it is the only way you feel connected, remembered and most of all, sane in such insane times!
