5 Reasons Working Out Has Become Essential During This Lockdown

Navigating through our personal and professional lives while quarantining is not something we are exactly used to. And over the past month, whoever I have spoken to has told me they are suffering through this lockdown as badly as I am. Everyone is fed up and is feeling cooped up, but the point is there is a larger problem that hasn’t been dealt with- coronavirus. Until that is gone, this is our life and since no one knows when that will be, why don’t we make the most of this abundance of free time?

I found a way to make myself feel better- working out. Yes, I too am annoyed with the amount of workout videos doing the rounds on social media but trust me, it works. I have started working out every day for an hour and it has made a lot of things easier for me. Like for example, I barely feel low or anxious and that’s a good start, isn’t it?

Here’s why working out has become more essential during this lockdown:

It Gives You Something To Look Forward To Every Day

They say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop and I fully agree. The thing is, this lockdown has been excruciatingly difficult and the only way to ensure that our lives don’t stand as still as the world has, we need something to look forward to every day. I find that working out is the perfect thing since not only does it make you healthier, but it also has an extremely lasting effect. If you exercise for one hour every day, it will help you be more positive and make good choices that day.

Hence, it has now become essential to workout every day. Are you going follow through to make this difficult time a tad easier?

All We Do Is Sit Around Every Day

Before coronavirus, it was okay if we didn’t work out since our daily schedules kept us on our toes all day long anyway. But now, we have no automatic way of getting our exercise in which means we have to make a conscious effort to not become one with our couches. Through the first phase of the lockdown, all I did was sit around mindlessly. The only exercise I got was when I walked around the house like a lunatic because I had nothing else to do.

Now, I work out for an hour every day and it has made me want to be healthier through this lockdown. I actually get up from my work chair every hour and walk around (my parents might think I have started to lose it but hey, at least I am getting healthier).

Being At Home All The Time Inevitably Makes You Snacky

Putting on an extra few kilos during this lockdown is unavoidable. Do you know why that is? It’s because sitting at home knowing that we have a plethora of snacks makes us even more peckish. Of course, it’s also because of the lack of exercise but that’s what I am trying to rectify here. In this time of lockdown, have you gone through an entire packet of biscuits in one sitting or like five packets of chips? I have but ever since I started working out every day, I have barely touched the snacks in the house (well, except for the Oreos but that okay, right?)

Exercising helps you make better choices, at least when it comes to food.

It’s The Perfect Time To Stop Making Excuses

If you are the kind of person that procrastinates everything, especially working out then we have a lot in common. But the question here is that you aren’t too busy now so what’s your excuse this time? It’s the perfect time to get in shape. There is nothing to do, nowhere to go and nobody to meet so what better way to use this time than to work on yourself?

I know you’re thinking that all the gyms are shut. But well, allow me to let you in on a little secret called workout at home videos on YouTube. Go on, try it and I am telling you it will be worth your time. Now is as good as a time as ever.

Working Out Will Improve Your Mood

We are all feeling low and down in the dumps ever since this lockdown has well, locked us up. It’s not an uncommon thing to feel blue and kind of lost, none of us are accustomed to this (hopefully we will never be), But, and this is a scientific fact, sweating it out heightens your mood and alleviates all feelings of anxiety and depression. It gives you an endorphin and dopamine high that keep you emotionally and physically fit. See, it’s the best way to nail this lockdown. Besides, it’s the only high we are going to get to for a while so why not cash in? (just kidding).
