5 Reasons Why We Think Priyanka Chopra Jonas Should Totally Run For PM

By  |

India just witnessed its recent Lok Sabha Elections, and the results having elected Modi in power, once again, did leave us wondering about quite a few things political. And while they may comment or abstain from saying anything political, celebrities are not immune to the politics of the country. In fact, for many, it’s an alternate career option. Think Urmila Matondkar, Hema Malini and the like. And this is a thought that played on Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ mind as well.

In a recent interview where the actress was asked about her aspirations for her life, PeeCee opened up and candidly talked about how her running for the post of Prime Minister won’t be too farfetched.  She told The Sunday Times, “I would love to run for Prime Minister of India. I would love Nick to run for president, I don’t like the things associated with politics … but I know that both of us really want to make a change. Never say never,”

And that thought in itself made us wonder how Priyanka Chopra would truly make for a good politician.

1. Politics is a big ball game with many facets to it.  One of its major one being holding people’s heart, faith and certain influence over them – a talent that Priyanka seems to possess.  Her 41 Million following on Instagram is a living proof of the kind of loyalty and love she already has from people across the world, which in our opinion, is a great place to start.

2. Priyanka Chopra has never been the one to mince her words. She is all for calling spade a spade and has time and again been known to bring up topics with critical importance to light and spread awareness through the medium of her fame and popularity.

This is Hasina (15), she is a 7th grade student who loves to go to school. She used to live with her sister and her husband, and without her knowing, her sisters’ husband was arranging her marriage to one of his friends…she was 12 at the time. One day when the man visited her house to pester her parents to marry her, she escaped to a friends house and the next day went to one of the community-based child’s marriage prevention platforms (alone), which she had heard about at school. She asked herself, if She married now, would she ever go back to school again? Hasina loves learning and wasn’t willing to trade her education or freedom for anything. That gave her the courage to stand up for herself. The community, along with the authorities, stepped in and stopped the marriage. The man was charged. It’s important to understand that it takes an immense amount of courage to go against these cultural “norms” that have existed for centuries. Hasina is a very brave girl. It was so heartening to see the elders in the community learning from the examples these young girls are setting, standing up against child marriage and female genital mutilation/cutting. Education gave these girls that perspective. This community is an example of how change is possible. FEMALE RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. 3. PeeCee may have risen to stardom through way of modelling and movies, but she has made sure the world knows that she is more than just that. Being the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador she dedicates her time to promote girl child education and women’s rights and makes frequent trips across the world to give voice to the voiceless.

4. She already had the right connections. Priyanka Chopra has friends in the right places which can mean good things when she’s in a position of power. For example, it’s well-known that she’s pally with Meghan Markle who is now royalty.

5. Even after living in the spotlight for better part of her life, Priyanka Chopra has been tight and true to her roots, not letting the stardom get to her head. She’s one of the few that understands the importance of different cultures – she wears her Indian-ness on her sleeves but also proudly mingles with other cultures.
