10 Horror Movies And Shows You Can Watch On Netflix This Halloween

10 Horror Movies And Shows You Can Watch On Netflix This Halloween

There are two types of people in the world – those who love horror and those who are too scared to love it. The fact that I wrote this article in spite of being really sick proves that I belong to the former category. In fact, with Halloween coming up, all I can think of at the moment is how will I get to celebrate it with being down with viral. So I am going to admit what most of us are too embarrassed to admit – I grew up watching the likes of Aahat, Zee horror show, and Ssshhhh…Koi Hai (Please don’t judge me). Though now none of it feels scary enough, back then it did. After watching an episode of these,  I used to ask my mum to stand outside the washroom while I used it. Eventually, I moved on to Supernatural and American Horror Story as I grew up. Okay, Supernatural just for Jensen Ackles a.k.a Dean but whatevs.

I wait all year round for a horror movie to release and I make it a point to watch it. But clearly everyone is out of ideas and I have to choose from the same old cliche movies every year and most times, I am left feeling disappointed. Every ex ever.  The fact that I watched even Aditya Narayan’s Shaapit (it was terrible but I had a good laugh!) in the theatre proves that I will watch anything and everything in the genre of “Horror”. If you’re a horror fanatic like me, I am sure you can relate to my feelings! So this Halloween, why not kick back and enjoy some good horror movies and series? Here’s a list I curated for you.

  1.  Sinister

This one uses both the old-school and modern tricks in the book. If you love movies that involve a family short on funds moving to an old, isolated house which has a gory past, this one will satiate your senses. Sinister will not make your hair stand but hey, it’s Halloween not give-yourself-a-heart-attack day!

  1. The promise

It is set in the period when Thailand was going through an economic breakdown and people were in major financial crisis. Two best friends, one broken promise and vengeance. If that’s not what interests you, then I don’t know what will. Make sure you don’t watch this one with your BFF.

  1. The conjuring

Why not revisit the tried and tested this Halloween? The Conjuring is possibly one of the best of the series. It has a good plot and some really crazy scares. And let’s not forget that this movie is based on a true story. You’re welcome.

  1. Veronica

The fact that this is based on a true story and is confirmed by a police report is what makes it spookier. A séance gone wrong and human possession will spike your intrigue. Veronica is the perfect watch for those who are not easily scared.

  1. The forest

I was initially very skeptical about this movie, because of its ratings, but as I mentioned earlier that I am ready to watch anything that has the word horror attached to it and so I did. This movie is set in Japan’s infamous suicide forest (yep, it’s real) and based on the journey of an American woman who is looking for her missing twin sister. But the question is – Is she even alive?

  1. Oculus

Mirror, Mirror on the wall – who is the craziest of them all? The movie vacillates between the daunting past and its ramifications on the present of a sibling duo, with a very evil mirror that messes with their heads – and ours as a result.

  1. Marianne

This is one of the scariest shows on Netflix which has the capability of getting under your skin. A woman who knows what she wants and how to get it is intimidating for many. Now imagine if she is an evil witch!

  1. Haunted

In a series of episodes, real people share real stories of their encounter with the spirits roaming the earth and that’s what makes it even more interesting. If you like sitting in a group of people sharing scary tales, this one is for you.

  1. The haunting of the hill house

Based on Shirley Jackson’s novel of the same name, The Haunting Of The Hill House is a series I couldn’t watch in the first attempt. Jump scares are fine but this just messes with your head. Hereditary and psychological horror makes this a series to binge-watch this Halloween.
