Tanushree Dutta Opens Up About Losing 15 Kgs And Leaving An IT Job To Make A Comeback In Bollywood. This Is So Inspiring!

India first witnessed the impact of the global movement against sexual harassment of women, the #MeToo Movement in 2018 when actor Tanushree Dutta spoke out about misconduct and harassment she faced on actor Nana Patekar’s account on the set of a movie. Until then, women of India had remained silent and the rape culture in prominent industries like film, media and politics was conveniently being normalised. However, Tanushree Dutta started the much-needed movement by naming the biggest and most powerful celebrities and calling out abusers and maligning those who were protecting them and being the champion of rights by raising her voice against practices that were considered a ‘norm’ in the industry.

The result was that women everywhere started speaking up against the sexual harassment they faced and never looked back. Two years after this fearless move by Tanushree, women aren’t intimidated by men anymore and don’t hesitate as much in calling out their abusers. Talking about Tanushree, she has emerged stronger, better and sassier and she is all set to make a comeback in Bollywood again. She posted an empowering post on her social media account about how she is ditching her IT job in the USA to come back and do what she truly loves. She also announced that she has lost 15 kgs and is “getting her sass back”. This is so wonderful.

She took to her Instagram account and talked about why she chose Bollywood over a prestigious job in the US. She wrote, “I was infact training for in IT and had a fantastic IT job opportunity in the defence sector of the US Government. It was a very prestigious job opportunity as I have always had the discipline, integrity and determination of an army person so to work in this field in whatever capacity would have been an honour. But I didn’t take it as I wanted to explore my artistic career again.”

Some old news doing the rounds that I’m doing an IT job in LA. I was infact training for in IT and had a fantastic IT job opportunity in the defence sector of the US Government. It was a very prestigious job opportunity as I have always had the discipline, integrity and determination of an army person so to work in this field in whatever capacity would have been an honour. But I didn’t take it as I wanted to explore my artistic career again. The defence job based out of Nevada would eventually after the Pandemic would need me to shift out of LA/ NY and I would not be permitted to leave the US for 3 years. I would also have to sign a job contract for 3 years coz such national defence related US jobs usually have very high security clearance and permissions so they cannot have people in and out of employment. Since I’m an artist at heart who just happened to lose my way away from my craft due to some very very bad human beings and the trouble they caused me, i decided to not be hasty in changing my profession and re-consider what options I have in Bollywood. I have a lot of goodwill in Bollywood and Mumbai so I came back to India and will stay here for sometime and will work on some interesting projects. I have been getting some offers from Bollywood in terms of movies and web series and the Industry seems far more interested in casting me rather than my arch- enemies.( they only announce projects but none of their projects ever see the light of day & will not).At present I’m in touch with 3 big South film managers who are pitching me for Big budget south Projects as well as 12 Casting offices in Mumbai. There are powerfull Industry bigwigs who are giving me silent support in the background as they know the truth and are my wellwishers. There are also big production houses I’m talking to for projects in lead roles. The pandemic has just made shooting dates uncertain so I’m unable to make a concrete announcement. I recently shot a commercial advertisement in the beauty space and announced that I’m back to work. I’m looking good, getting back my sass as I’ve lost 15 kgs and there is a strong buzz amongst industry folks of my imminent return to acting! #??

She shared that she decided to part ways from films because of some people who did her wrong but that isn’t going to let her stop anymore. “Since I’m an artist at heart who just happened to lose my way away from my craft due to some very very bad human beings and the trouble they caused me, i decided to not be hasty in changing my profession and re-consider what options I have in Bollywood,” she said. It’s sad to see how women, even if they are the victims of an abuse, have to bear the brunt of the society and feel they need to switch careers or cities just so they are not victim-shamed or be branded as troublemakers. It’s great how Tanushree isn’t giving to hoots about that anymore.

Talking about the opportunities in Bollywood, she said, “I have a lot of goodwill in Bollywood and Mumbai so I came back to India and will stay here for sometime and will work on some interesting projects. I have been getting some offers from Bollywood in terms of movies and web series and the Industry seems far more interested in casting me rather than my arch-enemies.” She further added, “At present I’m in touch with 3 big South film managers who are pitching me for Big budget south Projects as well as 12 Casting offices in Mumbai. There are powerfull Industry bigwigs who are giving me silent support in the background as they know the truth and are my wellwishers. There are also big production houses I’m talking to for projects in lead roles.”

She signs off by saying that she is looking good and we can almost sense her new-found confidence in her words. She said, “The pandemic has just made shooting dates uncertain so I’m unable to make a concrete announcement. I recently shot a commercial advertisement in the beauty space and announced that I’m back to work. I’m looking good, getting back my sass as I’ve lost 15 kgs and there is a strong buzz amongst industry folks of my imminent return to acting!”

We are so proud of Tanushree who wasn’t afraid then and isn’t afraid now as she sets off to a second innings at her film career. Back then, she revved up the much-needed conversation about sexual harassment that we had been bottling up for so long and now she’s proving how to rise above your demons and actually face them, because you are so much stronger than them. We wish her luck!
