Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone And Katrina Kaif Swear By Pilates. Here’s Why You Should Try It Too!

There is a major misconception amongst millennials that you should only exercise when you need to shed those extra kgs. While exercising does help, that isn’t the only reason you need to work out. One of the main reasons is also to stay healthy and strengthen your muscles. It also matters what kind of workout you partake in, you can’t just go picking up weights when what your body clearly needs more flexibility or even strength. Agreed, it is difficult to find a work out regime that does it all for you but it isn’t impossible!

One such exercise that does it all for your body is Pilates. Fun fact: Pilates was originally called Body Contrology and was founded by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It is a method that works on your entire body using your own bodyweight regardless of your physical abilities, age, and gender. It really is the mother of all workouts.

After envying their bodies and living vicariously through their gym motivation posts, let’s take a look at all of them that practice pilates like their lives depended on it!

Katrina Kaif  has gained some kickass abs by practicing pilates for a while now. Yes, that would explain that waist she flaunted in all her songs – those abs would put washboards to shame. Deepika Padukone too has an athletic figure thanks to some crazy Pilates moves. She can do some of the toughest poses with such ease. Or at least it seems like it. On the other hand, Alia Bhatt calls herself the pilates girl and swears by Yasmin Karachiwala’s pilates class and so does Ananya Pandey

Sara Ali Khan also uses pilates and trains with Namrata Purohit. All those gym photos? Yes, taken right outside Namrata’s studio. Sonakshi Sinha also uses weights while performing Pilates. You’ve seen all those images of Janhvi Kapoor leaving the gym. Yep, she is a staunch believer of this form of exercise too.

These are just some of the A-listers whose bodies are a result of their hours spent with this form of exercise. Of course, all of them practice equipment-based pilates. There is also a second type known as the mat-based pilates. Equipment-based, of course as the name suggests, uses various kinds of equipment such as the reformer which is the movable carriage that you push and pull along its tracks. These pieces of equipment create resistance for the muscles, forcing them to work harder. On the other hand, mat-based pilates are exercises that are performed on the floor, using your own body weight. This is done to improve balance and posture.
