Zahra’s Checklist: 5 Skirts You Need NOW
This week, my High Street Edit focusses on skirts in all shapes, sizes and materials. Summer is almost upon us, and in the blazing Indian heat, it’s what fashion girls refer to as “no pants” weather. That’s why skirts are such a perfect alternative. They’re cool, comfortable, and this season they’re back with a vengeance in chic new avatars. Wear them to college, at work or even the weekend, and you’ll always keep one foot ahead of the fashion curve.
Here are the 5 skirt trends you need to know for the season ahead:
1. The Denim Staple
What’s a fashion girl’s wardrobe without a denim skirt? This closet staple isn’t going anywhere, girls. And with the ’70s inspiration still going strong, a chic button-down denim skirt is the perfect weekend separate. There are tons of other denim skirt styles trending right now too — from A-line minis to patchwork midis — so you’re really spoilt for choice!
2. The Statement Midi
Thanks to a strong showcase at Spring 2016 runways, the pleated metallic midi skirt is this season’s standout skirt. This spotlight-stealing skirt length in shiny, eye-catching fabrics will have you looking like a million bucks and being the centre of attention in a sea of boring black evening dresses. Pair with a colour-block crop top for maximal style.
3. The Striking Maxi
If you’ve had your fill of fringe and need something new to get you going, this season’s maxi skirt is all about drama. Floor-sweeping layers, volume, mega prints or bold solid hues — take your pick of romantic, flowy maxi skirts. Style with a body suit or a chic shirt for a sleek streamlined appeal.
4. The Power Piece
When you’re in the mood for something extra special, look to the outfit-elevating powers of a statement skirt. Especially a wrap pencil skirt in mega florals or mega flounces — they work just as well in the boardroom as the bar!
5. The Sleek Mini
The mini is back, girls! Daring at the same time super feminine, this season’s mini comes with fringes, ruffles, frills or pleats, and can add some serious edge to your cutesy wardrobe. Primary hues are great for college or work when paired with a crisp white shirt and flats. For an off-duty look, switch the shirt for a fun slogan tee or a sexy bodysuit for a night out shimmying!
