Taapsee Pannu Gets Candid About Airport Looks, Style Trends & More

By  |

Not only has Taapsee Pannu made a mark for herself in Bollywood as a brilliant actress after her stellar performances in movies such as Pink and Naam Shabana, but she’s also had commercial hits such as Judwaa 2. However, we are in awe of her, not only for her acting chops, but also for her sense of style.

Whether it is a neon pantsuit, colour blocking pastel hues, patchwork denim, or sock boots, she carries every look off with panache! Taapsee’s style leans towards androgynous with a hint of femininity.

So when we questioned her about her style and beauty secrets, Taapsee had some rather fun answers! Read on…

What is your most precious fashion purchase?

I don’t like to spend a lot on one particular item, I would rather spend on multiple items because I get bored easily. I like to refresh my wardrobe every six to seven months. I think the most I have spent is on bags from brands like Ted Baker or Kate Spade.

The last fashion item you bought?

The last fashion item I bought was a pair of heels.

One thing you love or hate about dressing up?

I love the fact that you end up looking the way you look after dressing up. I hate the time it takes to dress up.

3 things you can’t live without in your wardrobe?

3 things I can’t live without… Some basic t-shirts with stripes or polka dots, or just plain t-shirts, some really good denims and nice sneakers. I really look forward to the basics from KOOVS, be it the ones that are trending or just general t-shirts or camisoles.

One fashion trend you hope goes away and never comes back?

Flared jeans. I really hope they go away soon, because it’s difficult to carry them off.

Ideal date night outfit?

A flowy dress.

Favourite shopping buddy?

Actually, I prefer shopping alone, because I feel when someone’s with me, that person is obligated to move around and stay for long in particular shops because of me.

Biggest fashion critic in India according to you?

I don’t follow fashion that much, so I have no idea who’s criticising fashion and who’s not.

Who would you like to style in Bollywood, and why?

Everyone in Bollywood styles themselves so well that I can’t think of anyone I could offer help to. Having said that, I would really like to style our female sports stars because they’re such good looking girls with fit bodies.

Go-to desi outfit?

Chikankari kurtas!

Your go-to outfit when you’re in a hurry?

A dress. I’ll just put on any cotton dress.

Last bag you purchased?

The last bag I purchased was probably from Coach.

Tell us about your association with KOOVS.

The KOOVS shoot is particularly for the summer, and it’s a really cool summer collection in terms of prints and really bright colours. You’ll see a nice mixture of different trends that you can carry off easily. You don’t need to be a model or an actress to pull them off. It’s going to be something that all regular girls out there can sport this summer.

What are your favourite pieces from the clothing line?

I love the pair of pop pink dungarees and the yellow floral jumpsuit.

Beauty secret you live by?

I think beauty largely depends on what you consume, and how much you sleep. This really matters because it shows up on your face.

One style secret you learned after entering Bollywood?

You have to make sure that there’s only one item in your entire look that stands out. Everything cannot be put together. You need to keep other things muted when you want one thing to stand out.

Your take on airport looks…

Oh god! Kudos to people who can manage those heels at airports. I can’t even manage them at work. I wonder how much effort it would take. In my opinion, airport looks shouldn’t be about how fancy one can look, but about how comfortable one can be.

And about airport spotting?

I get really pissed when I see people at 2 am trying to click me.
