6 Summer Basics You Should Stock Up On STAT!

6 Summer Basics You Should Stock Up On STAT!

When it comes to seasonal clothing, even the best of us can be left standing in front of a fully-functional closet wondering, ‘Where are all my clothes?!” Especially now, when the temperature keeps soaring to extreme new levels. This is the season when one needs a designated space in one’s wardrobe for basics that are perfect for summer. Keeping in mind Spring/Summer 2016 trends, I’ve collated a list of must-haves to shop for so you have a fashionable summer.

1. The Wrap Dress

Let’s take a moment to thank Diane von Furstenberg, who invented this chic silhouette in 1974. Spring 2016 saw Christopher Raeburn, Versace, Ferragamo and many designers taking a cue from DVF and belting up the V-neck dress for a sophisticated look. What’s lovely about the wrap dress is that it works perfectly as workwear and is also stunning enough to be worn after hours.

2. The Breezy Midi

It’s about working something roomy yet sophisticated this season, and one skirt that does justice to both is the flared midi skirt. Perfect to rock with a button-down shirt and ankle-strap heels, or a boxy top and cropped summer jacket with lace-up sandals, this skirt is your go-to silhouette for summer.

3. A Chic Pair Of Slides

Comfort is this season’s buzzword, be it footwear or clothing. And swimwear slides have been reincarnated this season to seriously elevated status. It’s now part of your everyday ensemble, and the truth is, it’s cool as cool can be. Wear it with a pair of culottes and crop shirt or just slip on a chic pair with a cheery summer dress. Frankly, if you don’t have em’ yet, your shoe closet is lagging far behind.

4. A Roomy Culotte Jumpsuit

Culottes have become the stylish set’s denim-alternative this season. But you know what’s more stylish than a pair of regular culottes? A culotte jumpsuit. While it may seem like a tricky trend to pull off, it’s actually pretty easy to style as it falls like a dress thanks to its voluminous cut. Also, remember how Blake Lively wore a striking red jumpsuit to Cannes 2016 with a matching red scarf? That’s proof that this ensemble is not just for casual wear. You can work it to a wedding or a formal event as well.

5. The Tiny Sling Bag

Big bags are so old-fashioned, darling. What’s in right now is a mini sling bag. Yes, you heard me. All you need to lug around is a tiny sling bag that’s big enough for the essentials. Dangle it like arm candy or double it up as a purse, whatever suits your style. Also, I must mention that it’s the perfect bag for those day-to-night deals.

6. The Flared Sleeves Top

Volume in clothing easily translates to comfort, and I did mention before that comfort is everything this season. That stands true even for sleeves. Flared sleeves are the talk of the town BTW, and everyone who is even remotely fashion forward is trying it out this summer. Want to know more? Here’s what you should look up.
