Radhika Apte Took MANY Fashion Risks At the International Emmy Awards And It All Worked So Well

The International Emmy Awards is an annual ceremony where the best of television outside the US is celebrated. Hosted by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), the red carpet saw a fabulous Asian invasion over the weekend with some of our favourite stars turning up in their best. From Nawazuddin Siddique’s win as part of the cast of drama series McMafia, to director Sadhana Subramaniam walking the carpet in a gorgeous Kanjeevaram, we are certainly beaming with pride for them. One star in particular, though, caught our attention by doing the most with her collection of impressive looks that she served one after the other. Radhika Apte took MANY risks with her fashion this weekend and we are elated to see that that they all worked so well for her!

The Red Carpet Stunner

When we first saw Iris van Herpen’s Paris Haute Couture week presentation titled ‘Hypnosis’, we were blown away by it’s creative and ground-breaking designs. A unique set of dresses, they look like they are constantly in motion, an illusion that is no less than wearable art.

According to the label, “The collection is inspired by the hypnotic manifolds within our ecologies through the work of American artist Anthony Howe”. The collection aims to reflect “the beauty and complexity of our environment” by mimicking the delicate patterns and structures found in nature. Mixing structural elements of aluminium and stainless steel with luminous silk organza and Duchesse-satin, this is one was a visual treat. Radhika’s dress is one of a kind as well since “each piece of printed fabric is cut using a plotter machine into tens of thousands of 0.8-millimeter mini ripples. These are then interlinked to move in fast, elliptical motions with the movement of the body”. We do wish there’s a video out there of her doing a bunch of contemporary moves in this dress!

Clans Of The Colours

We can’t remember the last time we saw bright tangerine and turquoise blue in the same frame. The ensemble on Radhika is from Bibhu Mohapatra and looks like a damn near impossible look to pull off. There are three different textures going on in there, all in complete contrast to each other! But with barely any accessories and matching strappy stilettos, the quirky number paired well with her daring personality.

Ruffled Layers

Bollywood’s favourite label from New York, Reem Acra, was also part of Radhika’s catalogue of Emmy dresses. For the cocktail party, she chose a ruffled and layered skirt gown with sequinned plunge top. This was styled with her signature low bun and minimal accessories. We love the length of this dress and make of this dress! It adds character to her petite frame and shows of that envious pair of Sarah Jessica Parker-esque stilettos perfectly!

It was so cool to see the entire Netflix India family, Lust Stories and Sacred Games fame, dressed in their finest at the International Emmys. Kubbra Sait chose a Gaurav Gupta grey number, and Zoya Akhtar was in a glamorous Indo-western ensemble that makes her look like a very chic Maharani who has a tonne of work to get to after this. We love all of it!
