Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone Bring Sartorial Divinity To Met Gala 2018
Every year, on the first Monday of May is the much-awaited Met Gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. While many of us think that the event is just a fancy gala for people to step up their fashion game, and critics to put their judge-y glasses on, the event is, in fact, for a noble cause, which is to raise money for the Costume Institute.
However, unofficially the night’s festivities have been termed as the ‘Oscars of the East Coast’, given the list of attendees and the fancy red carpet that guests take pride in posing on. The tickets for the Met Gala are the hardest to get, hence, making it the most-coveted fashion event ever.
Every year, Met Gala sets a theme that all attendees need to follow. Last year the theme was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçon, and our very own desi girl Priyanka Chopra and Rani Padmavati Deepika Padukone were in attendance as well.
PeeCee slayed the red carpet in a custom Ralph Lauren dress, which also happened to be the longest trench coat in the world! The dress also went onto become a popular Internet meme (you win some, you lose some). Deepika, on the other hand, went rather vanilla with her white Tommy Hilfiger dress, which, unfortunately, resembled a simple slip dress and did not garner much praise from the fashion critics around the world.
The Internet is abuzz again, as Met Gala 2018 was held today morning. The theme this year was quite controversial and tricky as well. The theme for Met Gala 2018 was *wait for it* …“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. You can imagine how controversial and tricky that could get, a slight religious inappropriation could have caused an outrage.
Making us proud on international waters, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were lucky enough to score an invite for the Met Gala this year as well.
Now there was already a lot of pressure on Priyanka Chopra to match up to to the super-duper high standards she set last year, but trust Priyanka to crush it, and oh boy, she did!
Priyanka’s look was quite reminiscent of the roaring 20s. She wore a custom-made velvet, ox-blood Ralph Lauren gown that hugged her curves! Thankfully for Priyanka, the trail of her gown this year was rather manageable. The best part of the look was the embellished hooded headgear she wore!
Priyanka styled the look with iridescent golden eyeshadow on her lids, plum lips and styled her hair in finger waves. Honestly, this look takes a while to warm up to, but we love that she took a risk and stuck to the theme.
Deepika Padukone on the other hand, had quite a lot of pressure on her this year, considering her look last year did not go down to well with fashion critics and her fans.
The colour red, is a red carpet favourite for Deepika and she seemed to have stuck to her no-fail formula for this red carpet event. She wore a red, one-shoulder, high slit gown by designer Prabal Gurung, which has worked for her in the past (hint: her epic red gown at IIFA 2016).
So this red gown, with an architectural detail on one shoulder, along with drapes and a high slit on the side was right up Deepika’s alley. She wore the look with diamond earrings, her hair gelled back, a dewy face of makeup, bright eyes and a glossy red lip! The look is definitely fierce, and she is carrying it off with much ease and confidence.
This look is certainly a step up from her 2017 appearance, but it still makes us wonder if Deepika missed the memo, as it was not in sync with the theme. But hey, she does look hella hot!
