Our Favourite Stars Sported The Chicest Anarkalis This Week. These Stole Our Hearts

By  |

Fun Fact: The fashion term anarkali comes from the character Anarkali from magnum opus Mughal-E-Azam. The character is often spotted in these outfits in this grand movie and plenty from the move stayed with us, including this style of garment.

Anarkalis have been in our lives forever. For many of us, this style was the first fancy suit that our mothers got tailored for a relative’s wedding. It is also one of the first styles we go for when in need of gorgeous ethnic wear, it’s versatile and looks beautiful on all body types. They can be worn with both with churidaars and dupattas, and as a single article of clothing,  giving us the freedom we crave while decking up in ethnic wear. This week is a testament to the timelessness of this flattering garment. Our favourite stars styled them in their own unique ways, and we cherry-picked the ones that caught our eye .

Kicking the list off is Alia Bhatt, whose Kalank promotional looks have been laden with the Anarkalis and we for one are ecstatic.

Alia Bhatt

Stepping out in the classic off-white and gold combination, Alia’s Punit Balana anarkali has a softness to it that we can fashion for our BFFs sangeet. It is lightweight yet eye-catching, a quality we will appreciate while dancing the hours away to shaadi tunes!

Sonakshi Sinha

IMHO, Sonakshi Sinha’s Kalank promotional looks have by far been the most experimental and unique. From sheer sarees to this jacketed anarkali by Anita Dongre, we are loving her fashion game right now.

Janhvi Kapoor

An anarkali gown is a territory we wish more women will foray into! They are so simple yet effective and need no separates to make them complete. This Anamika Khanna creation let’s Janhvi explore her space, and we are all for it

Aditi Rao Hydari

We can’t talk about the best in ethnic this week without having a summery kurta in it somewhere. Aditi Rao Hydari’s anarkali kurta is perfect for work, travel or fun and we want one.

Madhuri Dixit Nene

Madhuri Dixit has got a comeback deserving of her stature and we are so in love with her promotional looks. This gorgeous red anarkali paired with a pink dupatta is all we need to lift our spirits up on a Monday morning.
