Oprah Winfrey Wore A Sabyasachi For A Magazine Cover And We Are Living For It!

Oprah Winfrey needs no introduction. She’s an inspiration, an icon and for many, the first woman to truly make independence more than just a dream. She stands for freedom, for having a voice and for making people be heard. And it’s only befitting that when she comes to India, she makes a statement with what she wears. And what a statement she made. The famous talk show host has now appeared on the cover of Elle and she looks stunning in what appears to be a saree. She is wearing, of course, Sabyasachi.

It wasn’t the first time that the icon picked from the Sabya trunk. In 2012, she visited the ace designer’s store and was impressed with the craftsmanship of his work. For the couturier, now widely known for dressing the who’s who of practically every industry, this was still an iconic moment.  And he did a throwback to it on his Instagram.

He put up a post on Instagram saying, “Nothing prepares you for meeting Oprah in real life. On her maiden trip to India, Oprah attended a dinner hosted by the royal family in Jaipur and I had the good fortune to dress her in a saree for it. We spent some time discussing India and spirituality, as well as Indian art and handicrafts. The opening of my store in Kala Ghoda came up in conversation and Oprah promised to swing in the morning if she got time off from her busy schedule. I thought she was being polite! Imagine my gleeful surprise (and slight horror) when I realised I was sprawled on the floor like an exhausted starfish after completing the setup of the store, just as Oprah came breezing in, exactly at 10 AM. She was magnanimous about it as I was mortified.” We can only imagine!

He further added, “Oprah isn’t just one of the world’s most influential personalities. She’s larger than life, but also as real as it gets! So, is she says she’s coming home for pizza, you better take her word for it and keep that dinner table laid out well in time for her arrival!”

Seems like Christmas came early for Mr. Mukherjee!
