Now, Porn Stars Will Walk The Ramp At New York Fashion Week And It’s About Time We Gave Them Their Due For Their Service

In the year 2019, the adult entertainment industry PornHub had 42 billion hits worldwide, 115 million visits per day and a total of 169 years worth of content to watch. By these numbers, it is safe to say that the website, and the industry in general, has one of the biggest viewerships in the world, with a massive amount of people being invested in what it has to offer. I watch porn myself. I am not ashamed to admit it because if these numbers paint a picture, it is of every other person consuming their content as well. Yet, the industry and the people in it have largely been pushed to the sidelines and the underground. It is taboo to talk about porn, at least among generations in conservative cultures. Their performers are deemed less than, mere objects of lust that you can toss aside after the 5-minute video is over.

But all of this seems to be in the past because the stakeholders of the industry are determined to make it mainstream. Out of the shadows and into the spotlight, Pornstars, creators, and studios are making smart moves and investments that are putting them on a map. A pornstar’s tell-all book is on the way to get a US president impeached, so its obvious that they can exercise a lot of influence.

One of the untapped cultural avenues that the porn industry is now stepping into is the world of high fashion. The New York Fashion Week is not too far away and for the first time, porn stars are taking up the role of showstoppers for labels and we think is super cool!

Pornstars who earned their name and fame on PornHub, Asa Akira, Marica Hase, and Jade Kush, have been roped in by designers like Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl of Namilia for their shows. According to Li, “The cosmos of sexual pleasure has been restricted to a few boring and chauvinistic narratives for the pleasure of the male gaze. Porn isn’t something existentially male. Most women just have been excluded from determining the narrative”. We totally agree that the many genres of adult entertainment are not something that should stay in the dark and consumed with shame. Humans are sexual beings and need to come to terms with what they are wired to like…even if it comes in the form of a pizza delivery guy being paid with sexual favours right on the kitchen table!

It will be interesting to see the otherwise high-brow world of fashion step in some raw and real fun. Fashion has drawn inspiration from sex since forever…bondage styles, crotchless panties and sneakily hidden dick prints being just a couple of instances of their transgression. To have actual porn performers rubbing shoulders with the best in fashion is a kind of inclusivity we didn’t know we needed but actually have. Such blessed are the times!
