Masaba Is Making Her Acting Debut With Mom Neena Gupta In Netflix’s Masaba Masaba. This Is The Kind Of Reality TV We Want To Watch
I always find feel-good, female-led series and films so much better than those action and thriller ones that I don’t relate to. But for some reason, we have a serious dearth of those in the Indian industry. It’s only once in a blue moon that we get a real and fresh women-centric show, because well, who would put money on a women-centric content? *rolls eyes*
Known for breaking, neh, smashing stereotypes, mother–daughter duo Neena Gupta and Masaba are once again breaking another ceiling. They will be seen in a witty comedy series based on, well, their own life, which is pretty cool TBH.
In a recent interview, Masaba spilled the beans on her wish to become an actor when she was young which could not come true, thanks to the stereotypes that surround female leads in Bollywood. She might not have got the chance back then but is all set to show her acting chops now. She is making her debut with a Netflix show Masaba Masaba and her co-star is none other than her mum and veteran actor, Neena Gupta. We think it’d be really interesting to watch the mom-daughter duo sharing the screen.
Masaba broke the news through an Instagram post that read, “The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree does it @neena_gupta ? Excited to be making my acting debut in the scripted series ‘Masaba Masaba‘ with who else but Neenaji! Coming soon on @netflix_in.”

This will be a scripted series which is actually based on the designer’s life, which explains the title. It will mirror Masaba’s real life experiences, struggle to fit in the fashion industry and getting back into the dating game. Neena Ji will be playing the role of her mother. It will give us a peek into the lives of the duo.
The synopsis of the series says, “This scripted series based on real-life moments from Masaba Gupta’s life follows her unique background, the diverse worlds she straddles across fashion and family, and her foray back into the dating world. An inspirational, joyous celebration of her life, this fun series will be packed with tongue-in-cheek humour, enacted by the mother-daughter duo, Masaba, and Neena Gupta themselves. The genre-bending series is written and directed by Sonam Nair and produced by Ashvini Yardi’s Viniyard Films.”

Neena Gupta also posted a still that has her in a cool mom avatar (not that she needed a get up for that) with a sitar in hand and a playful smile. She captioned it, “Dekho meri beti kitna pareshaan karti hai mujhe! It’s so amazing that they are coming up with a women-led series which follows the life of a single mother and her designer daughter as she tries to fit into the world that she’s chosen for herself. More importantly, I am excited to see an honest story of a mother-daughter relationship packed with heartfelt emotions and realness which is also, BTW, enacted by one of the best mom-daughter duo in the industry. Honestly, I can’t wait to watch it.
