Katrina Kaif’s Canary Yellow Silvia Tcherassi Dress Is Pretty, Except A Fitting Issue That Could’ve Been Easily Fixed

Katrina Kaif’s Canary Yellow Silvia Tcherassi Dress Is Pretty, Except A Fitting Issue That Could’ve Been Easily Fixed

There was a time in my life when I was a online shopping fiend. I would browse my favourite websites every day before going to bed, having allocated days to a particular category. Having worked in retail, I knew when the fresh batch of products will hit the listings so I timed to get there first. As a result, my wardrobe started to look a hodgepodge of fabrics, prints, styles, and textures –  there was no harmony and it looked like the clearance sale aisle of a mall shop. They also didn’t fit me that well, being passable in terms of looking flattering, to say the least, .*Sigh*

It took a while for me to fix this disastrous habit, and I started by giving away anything I hadn’t worn in the last 2 months. I started buying locally more often – boutiques, tailored products and whatnot. But I made it my mission to only buy things that I have tried on at least once. Even online, I would pick sellers who offered ‘trial and exchange’ options, a business model I feel all online stores should adopt.

Celebrities are not immune to this disconnect in their clothing as well. Given that they don’t shop themselves, the clothes that are sourced for them are based on their standard measurements, which are bound to fluctuate. They are only human. It’s also interesting to note that when it comes to designers using high-quality fabrics, it sometimes does not translate well on Indian body types. For instance, Katrina Kaif’s beautiful Silvia Tcherassi yellow dress that was one size too small for her, resulting in the look of it being getting lost in the confusion.

The asymmetrical silk-blend dress came with a detachable belt and a solid panel on the bum to give it some heft. It’s a charming design detail, which would have been visible if the fitting on Kat was done right. The dress is supposed to flow on her, giving the oversized, casual drape a chance to shine. That is has been a styling mishap with a smaller size can be seen at the waist where it hugs her stomach and it’s evident in the sleeve as well, the intended Bishop style lost in the fitting. Kat is one of our faves to source inspiration for pretty mini dresses and fortunately, this one, gave us a lesson along with as well. Always try on oversized draping silhouettes before buying them because if they don’t fit, they won’t fall the right way.

The dress belongs to Silvia Tcherassi’s Resort 2020 Collection, which was inspired by “the beautiful and natural sand formations, capturing their neutral colours and sinuous patterns and matching them with floral, geometric and artistic camo prints in a very organic way. This time, Tcherassi’s mood board was full of images of the desert roses that were the inspiration behind the new Qatar museum, the landscapes of the Atacama desert in bloom, and vintage textiles. The result was soft and harmonious, showcasing sophisticated tailoring and new details such as the long pointy collars. Just like the wind sculpts the sand delicately, Tcherassi handled fabrics to create loose drapes and surprising shapes”. We can certainly see the theme in the design, which was unfortunately lost on Kat. If done right, Kat could have had a great summer dress to add to her list of adorable numbers from the year. Oh well, maybe next time!

On the work front, Katrina was last seen in with Salman in Bharat. She is set to next feature in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama Sooryavanshi, alongside frequent collaborator Akshay Kumar. The film is slated for a March 2020 release. It should be a fun flick!
