Kangana Ranaut’s Bandhani Lehenga Took 14 Months To Be Made. We’ve More Details

If it weren’t for the pandemic that we are currently stuck in, locked away in our homes, scared to step out  even to fetch groceries, this would probably be the most exciting time of the year. We would have been gearing up for the festive season, with gift shopping and dressing up in traditional best for all those get togethers and Diwali parties. Oh, just thinking about the kind of different outfits we would wear or try to style for the occasion is enough to get us going. And even though there isn’t much we can do about it this year, doesn’t mean we can’t still take some style inspiration from celebrities, Kangana Ranaut being on top of the list with her recent bandhani lehenga.

Stunning us in a gorgeous purple and blue lehenga for her brother Aksht’s wedding, Kangana Ranaut graced the special occasion in a strikingly unique bandhani lehenga, which as it was later revealed, took almost 14 months to be prepared.

Swirling in a video she posted on Instagram, where upon a closer look you can see just how intricate the work is and how rich in colour the beautiful dupatta is in, this masterpiece by Anuradha Vakil caught quite a few eyeballs. We love and Kangana shared shared the details. She wrote, “Everyone who is asking about my lehnga, its a gujrati bandhani lehnga which took almost 14 months to be made, a dying art I am privileged enough to be able to support, designer Anuradha Vakil made this dream come true and my friend @sabyasachiofficial designed the jewellery for me.”

Looking absolutely radiant in the ensemble, more so because it reflected such a rich part of our heritage and craftsmanship in prints and design, in a swift move, Kangana has brought bandhani back in fashion. Not that it ever left, but it is heartening to see such thousand year old techniques still stand as relevant and royal as ever.

Bandhani originated about 5000 years ago as one of the oldest tie & dye technique which includes tying meticulous knots by hand on the fabric and then moving on to dying it. While bandhani would earlier be restricted to colours like maroon and red, as times are changing, they are moving on to a more varied spectrum of colours such as wine, burgundy, powder blue, and steel grey.

Meanwhile, the Manikarnika actress has been sporting regal and festive looks for her brother’s wedding, where for the mehendi she sported a silk lehenga from Good Earth India, and wore a ravishing suit by Sabyasachi for visiting the Kuldevi Maa Ambika temple in Jagat village Udaipur, post the wedding celebrations. Safe to say, we have enough styles bookmarked to take inspiration from!
