Ayurveda In Fashion Is What House Of Milk Is All About
Ancient Ayurveda meets fashion — how does THAT work together, you’re wondering? Well, weaving healing properties of herbs and roots into their lightweight fabrics and wearable art is what fashion label House of Milk is all about. With the use of fabrics such as cotton, linen, and silk, the brand works with experts in order to customise the cloth with hand-picked herbs like aloe vera, neem leaves, curry leaves, turmeric, and jasmine, among others. These fabrics are then processed without any toxins using Ayurvedic ingredients.
Founded by Reshma Merchant and Priyanka Kaul Lakdawala, House of Milk comprises two lines – Healing Garments and Wearable Art for men, women, and kids. By incorporating ancient Indian wellness, Ayurveda, into traditional fabric production, they bring an element of a holistic, spiritual lifestyle to their garments and jewelry. The designer, Reshma, creates minimalistic fashion with detailed embellishments using these fabrics. Working with a muted palette, especially creams and whites, she creates beautiful and elegant pieces, which are distinctive. Their new Leaf DNA collection collates pieces that are embellished with the lines of a leaf, inspired by drawings of their microscopic botanical DNA, creating a fluid dynamic with the ‘geometry of nature’.
Who better than a soulful singer to be the new muse of House of Milk this season? Vocalist Alyssa Mendonsa, famous for her playback in movies such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Karthik Calling Karthik, and Break Ke Baad, is now the new face of the label. According to her, Reshma’s elegance, sophistication, and confidence is what she admires the most, which is beautifully translated into these pieces. “Elegance is important to me, but I am a confident young woman, too, which I would like my style to convey. This collection made me feel every bit that way, both as a woman and as a performer. It is truly an honor to be associated with House of Milk.”
