#HauteStreets: Recreating The Style Of 5 Fashionable Cities In India

Style in India cannot be pigeon-holed. Much like our culture and cuisine, style in India changes every few kilometres. Hence, we decided to take a journey across the country, discovering the distinctive street style of Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Shillong, and Bengaluru, with our series #HauteStreets.

Our host, Scherezade Shroff Talwar, took inspiration from the distinctive and unique style of these cities and showed us how to incorporate the vibe of each city in your look.

From Mumbai’s easy-chic vibe to Delhi’s love for luxury, and Bengaluru’s modest yet chic style to Shillong’s music-inspired fashion, here’s breaking the style vibe of each city down for you with these awesome shots from the Vivo V9.

 

Mumbai

To nail the Mumbai girl’s laidback and effortlessly chic style, stick to basics. Not only are mom jeans trendy, but they are also super comfy thanks to the high waist. Pick a pair of mom jeans to make a statement, and style it with a basic tank top in your favourite colour. Add an easy blend of style and utility with a bum bag aka fanny pack, and finish the look with a pair of bright sneakers.

 

Delhi

Mixing luxury pieces with high-street pieces is the way to nail the Delhi girl’s style. Pick a pair of tailored trousers that instantly make you look polished and chic. Style the pants with a basic top, and add a touch a luxury with your handbag. A pair of sneakers will not cut it for the Delhi girl; pick something more polished, like a pair of open toe mules.

 

Jaipur

To channel the Jaipur girl’s boho style, strike a balance between modern and traditional. Wear a bold block print bottom, like a pair of cotton palazzo pants or a maxi skirt, and balance it with a basic tank top. Finish the look with some funky jewellery. To channel the vibe of Jaipur you can wear some oxidized silver jewellery, and add that modern touch with a more contemporary or edgy piece like a bold denim choker.

 

Shillong

With music having a heavy influence on the city’s style, you need some spunk and edge in your look. To recreate the Shillong girl’s edgy style, all you need is a funky layer and a pair of boots. Since high street brands haven’t reached Shillong yet, the young boys and girls here make the most of their creativity. Simply elevate your basic tank top and skinny jeans by styling them with a pair of funky boots, and a long-line ripped denim jacket with cool accents such as badges and patchwork. A ripped denim jacket can be a cool layer that works even for the summers.

 

Bengaluru

Being the IT capital of India, the city is a melting pot, attracting young people from all over the country, who bring their own sensibilities to the style aesthetic of the city. To recreate the Bangalore girl’s fuss-free and individualistic look, a classic striped maxi, accessorised with a belt to cinch the waist, would be perfect. Leave heavy accessories aside, and slip your feet into a simple pair of flats!
